Hi I haven’t had muscle spasms but my muscle was very hard around my scar but I have found massaging bio oil on it did help and the more I was walking helped

Bio oil is the best isnt it?   I used it on the cars on both my knee replacements and now on my Hip scar. It makes it easy to massage the scar and also reduces the colour as time goes on x

    Hi Sarah

How long since you had your operation? I haven't had any spasms but and doing my physio at least 8 times a day so maybe I am keeping the muscles stretched?   Agree with comment about bio oil, if you can massage it in and try to move the muscle gently underneath the scar it might help

    Good luck

HI I started using bio oil as soon as my staples was out it has helps so much with my scar and muscle as when I did have a little cheeky lay on my side it didn’t hurt as physio did say it would feel like laying with something in your pocket

As Clare said, as soon as the stitches/staples are gone it is ok to use the bio oil. I am also 4 weeks post operation so we all seem to bee at the same point in our recuperation!  I am trying to walk 4000 steps a day this week, do 8 physio reps and drink 1 1/2 litres of water. I find that by setting targets I am more likely to do the tasks. BUT, I also rest when I feel that I might have over done it...A good book, Netflix or a DVD have been my "rest" saviour x

Keep in touch and hope we all get better quickly xx

Sarah, I had bad muscle spasms starting about week two.  I drank a Gatorade every day, and ate bananas.  Also, at my PT, the therapist massaged the muscle.  I have started using the Bio Oil (you can buy I think on Amazon) just to help with the scar, not sure it actually does anything for spasms.  They will go anyway over time as your muscles heal.

    Dear Sarah

It could well be that your back is out of kilter. I used to find that this could be controlled by using pressure points as shown to me by my chiropractor before I had my first hip replacement.

Hope you find an effective answer.

    Cheers Richard

Morning Sarah27216!   What type of surgery did you have?   Did it involve cutting or lifting butt muscle?   That maybe why you are experiencing the spasms.  Try massaging the area. Vitamin E oil is good also. Cheaper too!  Not knocking bio oil but it’s expensive.  Also are you doing exercises?  Are you icing or using heat?   Clams are good to do.  Some squats, not too far down.  To get muscles surrounding hip stronger.   Wishing you all the best and God’s blessings to you for a speedy recovery and healing.   Hugs 🤗Linda
