muscle tension in my cheeks.

I am 20 and for the past year, I have been experiencing a rather substantial amount of tension in my cheek muscles. For instance when I smile, keeping the smile on my face, I start to feel the muscles tightening making it very difficult to keep a smile. When i'm done smiling, The tension is still there as if it feels like my cheeks are getting stretched even when they aren't. Does anyone have a clue what could be going on? I'm very puzzled and it's really messing up my social life.

HI i've felt that feeling youve described.

its something to do with our adrenalin glands that causes the face or jaw to tense.

I had to stop taking the medication Sertraline because of that tense heavy pain in the face.

I had to lay with my face hanging off side the mattress because i couldnt handle the pressure... heavyness of my skull.

What AD are you on ?

Yes, well I have taken Zolaft, Sertraline and I am now on Citalopram. The medications don't correlate with the problem. I have been on AD's for a while and then been off them for a while. Still getting same results 😕

I've began to meditate and focusing on my mental health so we will see where it gets me. I just wonder if its some sort of physical problem rather than mental.

meditation mindfullness is a great tool to use throughout our lives apparently.

I'm also going to start practising" being mindful" to help my MH daily and start i'm starting a new sleep regime having eight hours of sleep, eight hours of work and eight hours of please myself, being mindful as i go along to and lots of brain food, healthy living and a positive happy mindset is the way to go.

Good luck positive thought will help you

i hope it settles and all works out for you

Yes, it's causing you a little anxiety and that's why its happening. It's mad how you feel you shoulnt be nervous about this but your body says different.

I have the same thing for more than 2 years now. It started as a sudden pain in my cheek muscles and it got so bad at first that I couldn't sleep because of the pain. I have the exact same problem with smiling and therefore also the social situations that can be messed up because of this. Over time the pain was less and the tension too. But I still have it to this day. It can pop up whenever I find myself in a social situation that is relatively new (or haven't found myself in for a while).

You can send me a message if you want to talk more about it.
