Muscle Tightness all over front neck

Hey, I have been having a hard time for a while. I've had anxiety all my life. It started out worrying about everything. Now that I'm older it has turned physical. I have been experiencing tightness in the front of my neck. The muscles seem to get so tight that I feel like i cant breathe. Also to the point where i feel like I need to cough. I feel like I have to clear my throat a lot. Although, I have been told it's anxiety I have a hard time believing it. I feel it all the time 24/7. It is so hard to deal with. I worry it's not anxiety, but a medical condition. Has anyone experienced this. could you ease my mind

Hello Alicia, sorry to hear about you're suffering with this terrible illness, like yourself I have had this issue only the back of my neck, all the muscles raised up a few months back after a severe migraine, I never get migraines or sore heads, but had some really stressful stuff to deal with.

The weeks and months after that migraine where unbearable, thought I had a brain tumor had brain zaps, off balance dizzy, eye sight blurry dark spots, feeling shaky. This was every single day was dragging me down too the depths.

Yesterday I work up and was sick, and had a absolute enough of how I was feeling, 5 months of suffering, convinced myself and my family that I had some terminal illness, went to A&E had a full check, told the Dr my symptoms he took blood, blood pressure, eye test, made me walk up and down to check my gate the works.

Because I was sick and feeling dizzy & had neck pain, he said I would need a ct scan. He put a drip in me before I went for the scan, he said just incase we find anything suspicious! My heart was pounding!!!

Off I went for the ct scan, and then was took back into a wee room for 40mins sitting wating for the results, he came back and said you're neck and brain is all normal, Omg the relief after 5 months of hell, I walked out of the A&E with the symptoms I walked in with, but with a different attitude, this is anxiety and even know the symptoms and pain aren't due too some illness, or injury. They feel real and it's horrible, I said to the Dr so is this psychological? He said I think so, and said I would need to take that up with my GP.

Point here is, do not torture yourself if in doubt get checked out, don't look at Google for symptoms. Make peace with the issue and the issue is anxiety. Not some other fatal illness, then you will relax alittle, change some things in you're life like drinking less coffee, sit up straight more often, take long deep breaths, or whatever makes you relax.

You will get there pal, as for the muscle pain use a anti histamine and some pain killers, and get you're parter or someone else to gently massage the area.

Good luck on you're journey, you're not alone bud.

Necks and shoulders seem the most common place to hold stress , that's what keeps massage places in business. sadly not everyone can afford to have there necks and shoulder massaged. So I settle for this heated vibrating collar thing you can put on your neck.
