Muscle twitches / fasciculations for a month

Posted , 4 users are following.

Hi everyone, hope someone can offer some opinions on this.

My lower right eyelid has been flickering non-stop for about a month now and I've also been getting random twitches all over the rest of my body too, including left side of the neck (near jugular), back and lower/upper legs. These ones haven't been constant, but very frequent.

I've just registered with a new GP and can't get an appointment until end of July, but I'm getting increasingly worried there is something neurological going on thats potentially serious.

I do have a history of anxiety, but I'm 100% certain they aren't just a figment of my imagination!

thanks

Twitches are harmless and are worsened by anxiety. Thousands of people suffer from the same symptoms. Search facebook for "bfs support group".

thank you for your reply. I've read a few research papers online that say fasciculations are actually very rarely benign (although harmless in themselves) and when they occur frequently and broadly, they are almost always caused by a neurological impairment.

no doubt I will get answers from my GP when I go for my appointment, but I am definitely expecting to have to get further testing

Mine started in April. I waited about two months before I decided to see my doctor. I also have them in my eye sometimes, but they are all over as well. I also have burning sensations in my nerves. Now I am starting to experience stiffness in my muscles and a lack of dexterity. I saw my GP a few weeks ago and got a referral to a neurologist on Monday. Hoping it is benign but worried it is not. Either way it will likely take many tests to confirm. It is good that you are taking it seriously. Good luck getting some answers and relief.

thanks for writing back. If its any relief to you, pain seems to be less of a concern than actual weakness, but I'm only going off papers I've read on line.

Hope you get some answers soon
