Muscle Weakness on metformin???

I have been on metformin for about 3 months and at 3 weeks developed severe weakness.  Subsequently I have had to stop working out (aerobic cycling and weight lifting) due to severe pain in my back as a result of the induced weakness.  I am taking Coenzyme Q10 and B12.  Has anyone else had a simlar problem?  What have you and your physician done to counteract the problem?

It was confirmed that I had diabetes 2 possibly 10 years ago. My doctor for over 16  years prescribed Glyade  80mg in the morning and Metformin1000 with my evening meal. Over several years my balance has been a major problem. I cannot walk without a walker.  I continually live with the fear of falling I have also visited a Neurologist recommended by m GP for four years with no better results. Now I question the above-mentioned drugs side efects. I am 86 and mentally I am alert

looking according to my family and friends.Looking for possible answers.      Bert

Could it be that your blood sugar is too low with the Glyade and that your unsteadiness is a symptom of hypoglycaemia rather than a a side-effect?  Your neurologist should be able to give his/her idea of the most likely cause of the problem.  Diabetes is a complicated illness!  Good luck.
