One of the side effects of pred  can be muscle wasting - if that is the case you need to talk to your doctor and ask for a referral to physiotherapy who shoul dbe able to giv eyou some exercises to build up your muscles.

But haven't you said you have lost a lot of weight on pred?

Unfortunately, at our age loosing weight is dangerous proposition, both muscle and fat are lost. However, without exercise, when we gain weight, it is mostly fat. After several ups and downs in weight, although total body weight may be less, % fat in the body is usually up... which means we are really fatter.

Hi Karen.  I got a pedometer after starting pred so I aim for 10,000 steps a day, sometimes I do more, sometimes a little less but I think it averages out over time to about 11,000.  I also took up tai chi, and some of my walking is Nordic walking.  I have longstanding physio exercises mostly for my back, and new ones have been added by my current physiotherapist, and I have been doing a few yoga poses for many years.  I also have a weighted walking vest, like step counting because of fear of osteoporosis, and wear that every few days, with gradually increasing weights.  The idea is to encourage healthy bone formation.

Yep, me too and I've always had good muscles till now.

i agree with Anhaga. Though now that they diagnosed me with osteoporosis it was recommended not to use a weighted vest for me. Darn it.

My muscles are coming back, slowly.  I do gentle and light weights and especially NOT a lot of reps. Just several times a day if possible.  Think my tendons and bursa and all are too weakened. So I must be careful.  But learning good practices from good Physio is helpful. Just beware of ones who try to make you do too much, I went through that, and they performed back cracking on me, which I believe led to other new back issues, this was before I got DEXA scan, which my doctor should have made me get at beginning of Prednisone taking. Darn doctors.
