My 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with Lichen Schlerosis

Hi everyone, my 6 year old daughter was diagnosed with lichen schlerosis around a year and half ago. So she was given dermovate clobetesol. When she was diagnosed she had like purple bruising inside the vagina but since that has cleared up. So the dr was fine with how things were. Recently my daughter has been complaining about an itch so i thought i would have a look and put some ointment on which i have. But when looking this time there was no purple marks in the vagina but i know that Lichen Schlerosis also is white patches but there was something different that is concerning me. There was purple like mole on the outside above the vulva. I am really worried because i have read about the increase risk lichen schlerosis has of vulva cancer. Can this purple mark be normal or something to worry about. I have booked a drs appointment for my daughter. I suppose all i can do is keep applying the dermovate and wait to see what the dr says. Any advice or information would be welcome.

Oh, bless her heart. I would be amazed if it was cancer Katrina. It's rare in adults and more usually associated with not treating the condition properly or at all for a long time. Your little angel is so young I would think it higher unlikely to be anything sinister. You've done the right thing, keep applying the steroid and await the Drs appt. I would strongly suggest you get your Dr to refer you to a dermatologist/gynaecologist or better still a vulva specialist which she should see at least annually to check that the skin is all ok in the area. Do you use any soaps or bubble bath items ? These can be very irritating also lots of us have found sugar causes flare ups. Good luck with the Dr and let us know how your daughter is getting on.Best wishes x

Hi thank you for responding! I really feel for her my daughter had a really good dermatologist but i have recently moved so i booked a doctors appointment to be refered to a dermatologist but because the dr specialised in dermotology and she thought the LS was under control she said she would just see us for now, but like i said i am now worrying about this mark so i hope we are refered to a speacialist again. I was told by the dermatologist not to use bubble bath so i haven't since. She has had a flare up with bubble bath in the past once as my boyfriend ran her a bath and didn't know... so bubble baths isn't used anymore. Which i do feel for her because she wants to use bath bombs and bubble baths with being so young. I had no idea about the sugar but we have recently cut her sugar down so hopefully things will improve. The only thing i am worried about is when the dr said it was cleared up i stopped using her steriod creams so i hope i haven't done any damage. But i have returned back on the creams now x

You may be right. She has recently just learnt how to ride a bike at school and is never off it! Yeah the dermovate cleared hers up too. You can hardly notice it only this purple like mole on the outside above the vulva. It's just different for her as normally the purple mark is on the inside ( thats not there anymore) Xx

Just an update that everything is ok she went to the drs today and they said it doesn't look like it's anything sinister. It's probably a bruise from her bike i am thinking because we can't recall her hurting herself. The dr said it should go in a couple of weeks with no treatment x

I little girl is going to be 7 in two months and was diagnosed with LS 10 days ago by Pediatric dermatologist and was refereed to vulval dermaltologist who we are seeing on 3 weeks time. She has lot of itching and soreness at the moment and was given Eumovate which is less stronger than Dermavote. Could you please let me know what do you use on a daily basis to prevent itching? I am so worried and feel really sad when i see her going to poo or wee. They are too young for this.
Could you please tell me how soon your daughter recovered from this?
looking forward to hearing from you.
regards
Nancy
