Hey
I am 23 years old, I had a car accident on 14/2/2018 and I broke my ankle, I did a surgery to fix it on 4/3/2018 , the doctor used some screws and wires, I did a second surgery after 45 days to take the long screw out but he let the others in, the DR said I can start putting weight on the ankle so I did, after a month later I saw the DR again for checking up, he said the fracture is healed and I must start physical therapy sessions, I did for a month but the movement wasn't that good also, so I finished the 9 sessions and stayed home living normally and moving around with a my ankle stiffness, it doesn't move so well but I can walk in a funny way, I went back for the DR and he said there was nothing wrong and should have another PT sessions, I did some sessions and stopped also, now it's been awhile, like seven or eight months after the sessions but I still have the stiffness , it's worse in the morning it hurts when I move the foot up or down it takes me a long time on the day to minimize the pain of the movement even if I had a rest for a while it's stiffing again and I have to start bending it again , I can't walk properly, I can't run for sure, I can't jump my whole left leg is skinny it's like my muscles are weak,i have a nerve issues also, there is feeling on my foot surface and three of my toes, it's like itchy or needles or electricity hitting from inside, it's have been more than year now, is it normal or should I do something about it, does it need another surgery? Or it's just a matter of more time? Help me

Hiya, I also had a bad break about ten months ago and after an initial round of physio was discharged . I wasn't happy with my progress to went to a private physio and ten months on I'm still making progress... slow progress but at least it some. In honesty I don't think I will ever get back to my normal before my break...I still have pain and a limp , cannot run or jump but physio constantly is helping. Could private physio be something you could do maybe if so I think it might help you x

hi,
i am much farther behind in the healing process than you are, but it sounds like we have similar injuries. i was in a car accident beginning of january and i dislocated my ankle and broke my ankle and foot in multiple places, also have screws and plates etc. not weight bearing yet but trying to move my foot and its slow going - i can barely bend it up or down at all. but i have been doing lots of research and my doctor is very good. have you been doing physical therapy exercises at home every day as well? i've been told its very important to be doing stretches and exercises for at least three times every day to really get the motion back because it does get stiff very quickly and im sure there is some scar tissue from surgery and the trauma of the accident... ive also heard that glucosamine can be a very helpful supplement for joint health!
i have the same feeling on my foot and toes as well, pins and needles and burning...
i hope this all subsides for you and that with more physical therapy you can gain more mobility!!
best wishes xx

i would honestly pray and ask your pt for the best ankle/ foot surgeon they know and i would make an appointment. i had an accident on june 23rd 2018 and had surgery two plates nine screws. im stiff but recently had steroid shots in my foot by a radiologist specialist that helped alot. i missed my last appoint with my doc because of the covid 19 virus just trying to avoid non urgent medical appoint. i can tell you one of the nine screws is working its way out and im gonna have to have that removed but having amazing pt who know surgeons help. go directly to a foot/ankle surgeon and make sure they are top of the line impeccable references and not showboats

I broke my ankle in 3 places and dislocated it in December 2017. Had surgery a week later and ended up with a plate and a bunch of screws. i did PT weekly (started at 3 times a week, then dropped down to two times and then one a week) for 3 months. It helped a lot, especially to make sure I was walking correctly. I stopped when I seemed to reach a plateau and it wasn't worth the money any more (I'm in the US). My ankle is stiff in the mornings and if I've been sitting for a long time. It loosens up after walking for a minute or so. I'm able to go for long walks and i even run. I went to the doctor's last August because it was hurting sometimes for no reason at all. I thought maybe a screw was trying to come out. Turns out I have arthritis in my ankle. So that sucks. but oh well. I think you can find videos on YouTube for ankle exercises that might help. I find being active and moving out frequently to help a lot.
