My ankle was dislocated on 18th May, so I was plastered on my ankle for 45 days but after that another does and doctor said that it is looking broken now (joint), again plastered for 15 days (till now), it is very frustrating . The doctor said if it will not fix now also than he will do the surgery and I also have pain in the joint. I don't know whether I will he able to walk again or not, it will heal completely and become stronger as before or not. Really very frustrating

I dislocated my ankle last Thanksgiving while on vacation . Emergency room doc first said it was broken and I would be going to surgery that night. But after he set it he changed his mind and said it was not broken. I went to my own ortho doc when I got home, after walking in a hard splint for 4 days, and he showed me the xray. 2 displaced fractures of the tibia and a shattered distal fibula. I had surgery the next day. I am 7 months post op and I am finally back to work. It still swells and hurts but I am walking. You will walk again. It may be a long road to recovery but you will get there. Just get ready to really test your patience.

Did you get a MRI or a Cat scan? Or just an X-ray? If any of you, especially in the UK are about to have any type of surgery on your ankle, plead, demand and/or beg for either a Cat scan or MRI, don’t be satisfied with just an X-ray. The only way to heal properly is for the surgeon to know the extent of all damage  done to your ankle.  My heart goes out to you but you need to be your own advocate by reading up on all things related to your ankle and questioning your doctors about what is best for you! Best Wishes <3

Didn’t they X-ray at the time of injury? Wow, I Can see why you would be frustrated.  Even if they recommend surgery be patient, the important thing is to get it healed right so you can walk again. I agree with the other two posts. My doctors may not like it but I bring a list of questions with me every time I am seen.
