My Aunt now having a hip op

Hi Everyone

My Dads sister is on holiday in the Caranry islands. She had a fall last night and is now in hospital because she broke her hip. She is now having a total hip replacement today. She texted me to ask a load of questions which I was happy to answer for her although I did warn her some things may be done different over there. I have told her about this forum and to join once she is home. Not sure how long that will be because I am sure they won't let her fly home incase she gets DVT.

Not what you want on a holiday. It looks like they are on the ball though. Hope it goes well for her!

Thanks Anne Yeah not good to end up like that so far away from home.

I made her laugh though I told her she shouldn't have drank so much vino on the first night.  lol

Hi Hailea, A very dear friend of mine had an emergency tripple bi-pass in the same place, it was frightening due to the language but the outcome was amazing, surgery second to none and she now has her life back. I hope it goes the same way for your Aunt, give our best wishes when you next speak to her. Dot X

      Hi Dot

Yeah the language barrier is a little off putting but the healthy care is spot on. They do have translators over there if needed so it isn't so bad.

      Thank you Dot x

Oh my goodness! Not good news! But I feel sure that the hospital will not let her fly home till she is safe to do so! Poor lady! Regards Amanda

      Hi amanda

No not good news. I had all her grown up kids phoning me yesterday for advice. Her two daughters were in tears. I told them not to worry she will be fine.  I put them right on a few things and that made them calm down a lot so that was one good thing. I told them they probably won't let her come home too quick. It is a 4 hour flight. So good chance of DVT if she flies too early.
