I have just had an appointment with the specialist from alder hey hospital about my baby and his operation but she wont do the op till he is 2. surelyit would be better to do it while he is younger and not walking or crawling to prevent any accidents with the catheter after the op. i would appreciate other peoples experiences with this so i can do the best for my baby boy. :?

My son was born with hypospadias and had an operation at Alder Hey Hospital just before his 2nd birthday. He is 13 years old now and everything appears to be normal but having read the article in yesterdays Sun newspaper I am quite concerned about reproductive problems later in life. When he was born and diagnosed with the condition I was told that an operation to correct it was available. The midwife who spoke to me said it was purely cosmetic so he didnt \"pee\" on his shoes at school. I was told that after the operation everything would be normal and no problems would arise. However, he did have to go in and have a 2nd operation because the original opening of the penis that he was born with was still leaking when they made a new one. I am glad I can share my experiences with others. If I can be of any further help please do not hesitate to contact me.

    Take care x

my son also has this condition he was diagnosed at birth with chordee and severe hypospadias, he has had surgery a few time to repair it and more surgery as the original surgery had reopened. i was told then he would more than likely be sterile when he got older as his testes were very underdeveloped. he is now 16 and going back in for surgery to try and open the uretha a bit more and the possiblity of implants.

My son was born with hypospadia, he is only 13 weeks old now and had his first trip to nottingham city hospital about it on monday of this week, He will have his operation when he turns 1, I am really concerned about it it after reading above comments as I thought it was just one operation thn he would be fine. The doctor told me it was purely for asthetic reasons that he would need the op, would you all agree that its worth going through!
