My bowels just don't seem right. Booked for a colonoscopy but freaking out

Hi all, I'm 29 for the past year I've been having alot of trouble with my bowels and abdomen. I noticed a change in bowel habits such as super soft small motions most of the time to skinny or pale stools. Sometimes there's a very small amounts of blood on the tissue but this is minimal. I don't have any urgency to go or notice pain more after I eat usually..exept the last week I've had a burning pain in the side of my abdomen after I eat and my stomach gurgles and growls so loud it's embarrassing. I've been to the doctor over and over. The first specialist I saw told me I had an impacted bowel (based off x-rays) told me the loose stools were "overflow" and gave me maxol to drink. I did that in November and hardly went toilet at all. It definitely cleared me out but it didn't fix the issue. Within a week it was back to how it was. I've had lots of bloods done and they're all ok my iron was a tad low but not too bad. I went back to GP and he referred me back to the specialist who's booked me in for a colonoscopy ASAP which is really scary. I'm so terrified and don't know what to expect. Over the last month my symptoms have become so much worse and I'm scared it will be the big C. Has anybody had a smilar story and turns out to be anything but cancer? Please share your stories 😊

Don’t get freaked by a Colonoscopy.  Be thankful.  For some odd reason docs hesitate to recommend a colonoscopy and really it is the tried and proven method for determining what is going on.  It needs to be done.  You get answers which is what is needed otherwise you’ll struggle going without a diagnosis.

Now as for what is going on?  The big C word is obviously a worry. It was with me to the point I had diagnosed myself dead!  Crazy eh!  Turns out I had Ulcerative Colitis.  When I look back now, given the symptoms- yup makes sense. Blood, gas, mucus, frequently urges, etc.  What I didn’t have was pain, Weight loss - 2 of the 3 most common symptoms for the big C.  That being said the Big C is a tricky b*****d and can go without any presentation but it’s very uncommon as is a C diagnosis.  So let’s take a deep breath and say it could be a whole host of things other than C.

The colon can have inflammation and can cause a bunch of symptoms so it’s great to hear you are getting a colonoscopy.

    Hi Clare

You can have sedation (can ask for extra so I am told)-so you won't feel much of what is happening.

I have had one of these colon jobs- and have another to look forward to next year !!

(Oh boy I am way older than you 70 plus-and will be another year older by next colon test)!!

If I can do it- so can you -it's best to know what is happening inside your body.

Let us know what happens afterwards (diagnosis)!

Clare I see your concern and am glad you are booked for testing I'm not a doctor but gall bladder problems can cause those symptoms or pancreatitis but if you had pancreas problems your pain would be severe I hope you get answers soon and know that the big c is rare in younger people

Thank you for your replies, definitely helps ease my thoughts about it all. I had my gall bladder removed 10 years ago so im confident it's not that. I have been on a low fat diet ever since. I'm doubtful it's colitis because I've only seen mucus once and all my inflammation markers have been nornal. As much as I worry they'll find cancer I'm worried they won't find anything and my life will just continue down this road of pain and poos. My colonoscopy is on the 17th of this month so I'll keep you updated.

Clare I know what you mean about not finding anything as I've been sick since this time last year I've been to 3 of the best research hospitals in the nation with no answers now things are progressing I've told them all I think its cancer but there not even looking at that possibility no tumor markers no pet scans I wish the best let us know
