My cataract surgery was not good, very blurry vision also sometimes when I move my eyes they flicker

Does anyone have that sensation after surgery and does it go away I had my second surgery last week.  I am an oil painter that is my life and now when I paint if my eyes flicker I have to stop.  The blurry vision is also driving me nuts.  I see two eye Dr's because I live in the mountains the my Dr. that did the surgery is almost a 2 hr drive, so I see a local Dr. the local Dr. really has no answers.  The Dr. that did my surgery said he corrected my vision so I would not have to wear glasses for reading but that was only once in awhile if the print was small, I did not need glasses for distance, now I need glasses for both.  It is very depressing.

If you look at the posts in this discussion about flickering (maybe you have?) you'll see that I was very distressed by the flickering and others have experienced it too. I've been to 4 doctors now and none of them have even a theory about what causes it. Last summer the last Doc I saw, operated to put a piggy-back lens in my eye. He had not been optimistic that it would alleviate the flickering, but thought it likely it would reduce or eliminate the other annoying visual aberrations I see, halos, rays, glare, etc. But just the reverse happened. It STOPPED most of the of the flickering, but did nothing for the rays and halos and actually  made the glare worse. Overall I don't think I'm seeing as well, but that might be because the secondary cataract in that eye is getting progressively worse. As is the cataract in my other eye that has not been touched. I have an appointment next month which I've been dreading to try to figure out where to go from here.

Seems most docs are ill-equipped to deal with problems that occur a lot more frequently than they'd like to admit. Good luck

I really do believe that Dr.s are ill eqipped as you said, and also think they really do not care.

Good Luck on your next Dr. visit, keep me posted.

      Thank you for answering.

"also think they really do not care". Some if not most can sure seem that way. And they sure like patients for whom things go well, so they can reinforce their high opinion of themselves and soak up the gratitude/adulation, a whole lot better than "problem patients" for whom they have no answers.

Hi Adelaide, I had exactly the same experience, I made a fuss, my lovely Mr Johnson was on holiday, but was seen by a very good consultant who said it would get better.  It was because my eyelids had to be double clamped, I have very deep set eyes, so the nerves were a bit shocked.  Yes it did clear up but did take a while.  The new implant was never as good as I was before the op but my optician has managed to get my glasses to top vision so no more problems as long as I wear my glasses, but at least I can read the small print now.  Having said that if you are worried or frightened insist on a consultant seeing you, if only to put your mind at rest.

    Warmest Wishes
