My Cystoscopy - yesterday

Posted , 10 users are following.

I am a male aged 34, hardly go the doctors, last time I was in hospital was 30 years ago. had a week to mentally prepare myself for this due to an emergency appointment for peeing blood. I (like you are now) read the horror stories from google and was terrified. My ultrasound and X-ray showed something in my bladder so the consultant said he was going to do a flexible cystoscopy and check my prostate. The prostate check took seconds, felt a little uncomfortable but not painful. Then, the cystoscopy. There was a hot nurse about 22 with the consultant I had read some people talk about erections. Others I'd heard talk about 'the shrivel'. The nurse asked me to take my jeans and boxers down to my ankles and put a gown on. I was alone while I got ready. There I was, laying on a bed. Boxers and jeans by my ankles covered by a gown. I delayed telling the nurse I was ready for a min while I psyched myself up. Then I thought, I have to do it. "I'm ready". In they came, consultant and clinical nurse. Next thing I knew the gown was lifted and very quickly gel was rubbed on my 'bell end'. I could feel something gel like being injected down my urethra. Didn't hurt at all just felt different. Then before I knew it the scope was in. I didn't feel anything until it was gliding down my urethra, it stung for about 5 or 6 seconds. Similar to how it feels if uve ever got shower gel in ur japs eye when u pee. Not too bad, I've had worse headaches. Just a slight sting. Then as he went past the prostrate a slight pinch that made me tense up but again not too bad. Once in I didn't feel anything.

Unfortunately I am now going to have to have these regularly for the rest if my life. Now I've done it once i really don't care. It's not bad at all. The anticipation of your first one is terrible. The doctors and nurses aren't interested in what your penis looks like they don't really look at it, only for a second. Don't be scared if you are having this done. The first 3 or 4 weeks sting a bit, but after that it was fine. As I was driving home, my arse was hurting a bit but that's ok today.

Any questions let me know.

Also, there is absolutely no way you will get a hard on. Just relax and you won't shrivel either.

Hi Mate, only a few minutes. Once it's in u don't feel anything. Yeah you can have a pint afterwards. It will be the best pint you've had. Since my cystoscopy, I've had a tumour removed from my bladder via my nob.  Woke up with a 22mm catheter in. Had chemo put into my bladder via my nob. Had my bladder drained via another catheter. Honestly mate, the cystoscopy isn't bad. My next one is in 3 months. Why u having it done?

      Hi Craig

One hour to go and dreading it not as much as I thought I would though. Going to have a diazipan to calm the nerves.

Having it done to see if I have any blockages down there as struggling to start a family just hope they find something.

Can't wait for that pint afterwards

      Cheers

Good luck mate. Honestly it isn't too bad. I was sh1tting it for my 1st one. I'm not worried about my next one. The gel they put in 1st numbs everything. More different feeling than painful feeling. Just a 5 second burn, but it isn't a bad pain. Post on here how u got on. Hope we tw@t the Italians!

Just realised, my post says stings or the first few weeks. Meant to say stings for the first few pees! Dan, have a look at TURBt procedure on YouTube. That's what I ended up having, my nob is still sore 2 and a half weeks on. Honestly cystoscopy is nothing.

WOW, amazed didn't hurt one bit didn't even know he had put the camera in only felt weird going through the bladder neck and nice feeling when pulling it out.

Surprised how quick it's over and would not be bothered if I needed to have it done again.

They never found anything so next thing is camera up the old backside.

Straight on the beer @ 12 get a skinful down me for the match hope all goes well for yourself

      Cheers

Hi, yeah I had a flexible Cystoscopy and then a TURBt 1 week later. Removed a 2cm tumour TaG2. Having biopsies taken in Sep under GA. Hopefully it doesn't re-occur.

    HiM Craig.

I'm male in my 20's. I recently had a turbt to remove a tumour.

You mentioned pain in your penis after nearly 3 weeks.

I'm wondering how that ended up and if there were any issues?

I had my turbt 2 weeks ago. My penis is still in a world of hurt. It hurts to urinate. Sometimes my penis is kind of 'hard' even though it's flacid.

And when I get an erection, it is so painful that I don't try to get it 'fully hard', and it now seems slightly curve downwards (when in this semi/nearly fully erect state)

I'm concerned about what injuries i've picked up and whether they'll get better

Hi mate mine was fine after 3 weeks. If in doubt you should speak to your specialist nurse. Also checkout fightbladdercancer dot co do uk

Did you have a CT scan after your turbt?

I have a CT scan next week.

I'm kind of scared, because I keep thinking they might be doing this based on my biopsy results that they must have by now.

i.e - If My results were 'good', they wouldn't need to bother giving me a CT scan.

Mine was all removed during Turbt mate. Didn't have a ct scan. Get on that website I mentioned. There's a confidential forum, it is a great help for me. I have to go every three months for Cysto now. Wouldn't worry too much mate.

I tried to join the confidential forum (facebook group) but its been 'pending' for like 4 days now. I also messaged the admin guy but no reply.

Anyway, saw my surgeon today because I still can't get an erection due to the extreme pain of getting hard. He told me to wait it our for now as it's only been a few weeks. However, he also had my results on him. I think i'm the same as you. Non-invasive, and I think he said grade2?

I guess i'll need regualr checks, but I can't go thought another cystoscopy without being put to sleep next time. It hurt me like hell! So i'll have to arrange general anesthetics each time.

Still can't relax. Hoping that i'll be able to almost forget about all of this at some point. You're still pretty young, and i'm even younger than you! I don't smoke, either! Still kind of in shock, but I think you tend to only see worst-case scenarios when you spend too long goung through forums like I do, and maybe there's lots of people out there who don't have reccurences and after a while, it's almost as though they are 'over it'
