Hi Alison. I was told by my GP that I had glandular fever 10 months ago and I've been ill ever since. I have been sent to a heart specialist, lung specialist, dermatologist, ENT surgeon and I am seeing a rheumatologist this week. It's so frustrating, all I want is a diagnosis. Hope you get one soon

    Alison,

I fear that the Paul Bunnell test will not show positive if your daughter has been ill for a year the virus may not be still active in her system although the immune response at fighting off the illness will still be very active.

The virus effects people in many many different ways, I can only describe my experience. My experience with the virus lasted over a year too initial effects did not bind me too my bed for two weeks then recover like alot of times.

It hit me over months and months and made me tired and effected my mental health bringing great health anxiety and still effects me nearly 3 years later, tired days/get ill more often.

    Positives:

If the haematologist is not wanting to see your daughter urgently then they probably dont think its sinister.

She will gradually get better, her immune system will pick up and she will fight this off.

My General practicioner doesnt know much about what Mono can do to a persons body they just know what tests to do and tell you they can't do anything. So hopefully she can consolodate others who will go through the same thing.

My number one piece of advice is keep your daughter away from google, its a scary scary place where self diagnosis is not only ridiculous and a fuel for mental health deterioration.
