my ear started ringing and the next morning it was dull sounding.

I have had problems with sinus infections in my lifetime but when I went to the doctor he said my ear drum looked fine maybe a little sunk in with no signs of an infection but he gave me antibiotics just in case there was something he couldn't see. So now I'm on day 3 of the antibiotics and nothing has changed in my hearing I'm nervous that it is perminant damage and not something that is going to go away. When I hear higher pitched noises they sound almost robotic. Just wondering if anybody else had some insight on what it might be?

Hi Bleus,,sorry to hear you have problems, unfortunately hearing problems rarely have a short time span due to them being drainage problems. Stick with the antibiotics until course finished and then simply have patience. Given your sinus history, some decongestants might help, my similar experience lasted 3 months and cleared slowly.sorry to be bearer of not the best info. I wish you well, please let us know how you get on. Cheers del

Same thing too. If someone beside or high pitch my ear drums has a pounding noise like water swishing in ears pounding hurts so bad head feels like cracking up. My dr had me get ear tested nothing wrong there. Now I want to see ear specialist

I have roughly the same problem.Tinnitus, ear whooshing etc. and sometimes a very high pitch sound in one ear. which causes me dizziness. My doctor has given me pills for the dissiness and they work.  Doc says there is no cure. I suggest you use a nasal rinse called Neil Med which comes in a bottle and you warm it in the microwave to kill off any bacteria.then flush your nose through with the water.  I do this every day and it helps enormously. My tinnitus is bad if I go out in the wind on my mobility scooter or am in a car with the window open.

Finish the antibiotics and if there is no improvement, then see your doctor again. Maybe he will refer you to ENT specialist.

    Regards, Val.

      Update

I got in to an ent and a audiologist and my hearing test showed my mid range tones below normal in that ear. The ent said it was probably due to a viral infection bit didn't know so he put me on 60mg of prednisone for five days. I'm on Day five of my medication and the only difference I have noticed is it is not ringing as bad but higher tones are distorted like I'm listening to them through a fan. I'm hoping with time it will get better but have my doubts. I have a follow up appointment in 6 days so will see I guess.

Hope the steroids and antibiotics are resolving your problem. It may take a while, but steroids are usually supplied along side antibiotics, so hopefully your ear will clear soon. Best of luck, Val.  As Aveline just  said...can you send us an update?

      Regards, Val.

    Update....

My hearing tests were good this last friday and I can tell I can hear better but still not as good as before. My ear is still ringing just not as loud. Best of all the distortion went away. I came down with a bad sinus infection so I am just starting to get over it. So hopefully with time the ringing will subside and all of my hearing will come back fingers crossed.

Just so everyone knows my hearing is back to normal thankfully. So my opinion is if you get it treated early enough I believe there is a good chance you're hearing will come back like mine did.
