Can anyone give any advice? My 83 year old friend, a heavy smoker, suddenly developed extreme loss of balance, double vision, tremors and a feeling of tightness and headache and has bee sent back from hospital having been told that a CT scan said she hasn't had a stroke but symptoms caused by swollen ankles and bunions.  Meanwhile the symptoms are not getting better.

Thank you very much,  Gavin, I think I might have to take her into hospital because the surgeries are all shut and I think she is getting worse.  It frightens me that they can let someone that frail out of hospital with no care package two days before Christmas.  What can you do?

Hi. What nasty symptoms. I suggest that you ring the "out of hours service" so that your friend can have further advice and another opinion.

Hope your friend gets help. She's lucky to have you!

    Cheers x

Thank you so much for all the advice, it helped me very much in working out what to do.  We tried 111 but couldn't get through so phoned 999 who had no hesitation in taking her in by ambulance and she's still there. Thanks very much for support!
