My experience and cure

I got this 3 years ago on my neck and chest. I was so embarrassed. I also got two spots on my legs in almost the exact spot. I wore scarves to hide it but never well. I was given cream, antibiotics and steriod shots. Nothing seemed to work. a year ago I had some kind of a terrible rash on my face it spread like wild fire. I went to 3 drs and the hospital. Not one dr knew what it was but i was given 2 steriod shots in the hip and steriod pills all in a weeks time. The rash on my face( at one piont looked like small rocks under the skin)  went away and the GA seemed to slowly be fading. But some still remained. I went back to my dr twice more and she injected the spots with a steriod. they seem to completely dissapear. At the same time as this was going on I was diagnosed with a parathyroid tumor. My calcium levels were very high on my blood work. They had been higher than normal for a few years but no dr thought enough to worry about it. I had the parathryiod taken out in the end of April and by June my GA was gone. It is now Sept. and I am still free and clear. I do not know if the parathryoid tumor caused this problem or if all the steriod shots finally took it away.I do know that there is an endrocrine condition that is associated with GA. I am diabetic so the shots were a risk for me but I hated the GA so much i risked it. My suggestion is to first check your para thyroid levels and see if they are elevated at all. If they are not then go for the shots into the leasions. Good luck from a former sufferer.

    You must be so relieved to be rid of the GA. I have all blood works done and nothing. Had the steroid shots in my elbows which did clear it but seems whenever I go near the sun/sunbed it just triggers it again and don't fancy a sunless life! Strange as mine was triggered by MCV viral skin infection but now doesn't seem to like sun.

    Think the problem with it is the cause and trigger in everyone is different so very hard to treat and cure.

    Just keep praying mine will burn out and let me lead a happy life again!

    I am extremely happy for you. I myself have had the steroid injections that helped the lesions but also left scars on my arms. I also had my thyroid checked and they found some swelling but said it was benign. How they know this just by doing a ultra sound i dont know. My dr put me on levothyroxine to get my thyroid back in check but at the same time i am doing the ROM therapy and the lesions are looking better.

    So I am guessing the the steroid shots you took took away your lesions but the parathyroid was what was causing the ga so having it taken out solved the problem. Hooray... for you. I am still searching and hopefully i to will also find some releif.

      I don't know what cured it. But if you have an enlarged thyroid it could be a para tumor. I would see a specialist and have the special test.

    Thank you so much. It is so frustrating sometimes and people do not understand that it is embarrassing to the person who is sporting around the masses of GA. I will check into this. I appreciate all of the positive information that I have been given!

      I know the feeling. I love to swim but putting on the suit with my neck like that was so embarrassing. People kept saying " you have ring worm" Even little kids said stuff. I hated it. I believe all the things I did helped get rid of it. I just don't know which was the final cure. Or if it is resting to come back.Good luck

    My g.a. is so widespread that shots into it would be impossible, as is applying cream.  I live 3 blocks from the beach, so I've learned to pretend it doesn't exist.  The sun does make it less noticeable as I tan, but would love to find a solution for the whole problem.  My son is a cancer research scientist, and he has said, "Because it isn't physically painful or contagious, not much research has been done to solve the problem."  I get it--many really sick people out there, but I sure hate these weird circles on my legs and arms.
