My findings

Hi I was diagnosed with widespread lp in February this year, I have tried many medications only to find they have caused other problems, but in the last month I have discovered what has contributed to the start of my lp. After doing much research on the net I have found that there are many medications that can cause lp.

I had been taking proton inhibitors ( omeprazole) for quite a few years, this is one medication that can cause lp so I stopped taking it and surprise, surprise after one month my lp is disappearing I have enclosed the web site

Have a look it might be of help to all you sufferers out there with this awful complaint

Thanks so much for posting the link!

That stopping your omeprazole has made your LP completely disappear is amazing!  I also take Omeprazole and have for many years. I would be willing to stop that medication to stop the LP in my mouth, but how do you control your acid reflux?

      Hi Linda

this has been a problem but I have been using gaviscon and at the moment it seems to be working, I visited my G.P. today and informed her of stopping omeprazole because of lp and she has agreed this could have been the cause.

Good Luck Linda, hope it works for you also.

Yes, thanks for posting this link!  There seems to be so few clues to LP.  I will try to wean off a couple of my scripts and see if it makes a difference.  Mostly it is oral LP that plagues me ...  any new information is so appreciated!

Hi - I deal with the acid reflux by taking a teaspoon-tablespoon of apple cider vinegar (usually organic, but doesn't have to be) in a glass of water either before or after dinner and I haven't had acid reflux since.  It has also helped my olp tremendously!  I read someplace that many of these types of problems are because of too much acid in the stomach so the vinegar balances the stomach pH by neutralizing stomach acid. I'm doing wonderfully!

P.S. I've only used organic apple vinegar and just read that it's better than the non-organic because it has enzymes, proteins, and pectin. Because of this, organic varieties are considered the gold standard when used to treat health conditions such as acid reflux.

Thank you so much for your post, I will certainly try the Apple cider vinegar in place of gaviscon as I would rather take natural products

You mean Apple Vinegar, not Apple Cider Vinegar?

By the way - do you take it before eating or after eating or wait until you have symptoms of acid reflux?

This is so helpful. I’m seeing a periodontist in a couple of days.  I went to my dentist to look at some strange white lines I discovered he took one look around and said OLP. He gave me betamethasone ointment which cleared the lines up. I have now what looks like gingivitis on the gum line above front teeth...he thinks it’s acute gingivitis so sending me on, the front area is so painful, he put me on antibiotic Flagyl has felt better some days but pain comes back on others. I started all this after a bad oral thrush. I also take Nexium once a day, but had been taking 2X day for several months. Now I’m wondering if what the dentist said was gingivitis is really LP?  I’m so worried and so stressed out right now. Any thoughts.

      Hi Christine

I do feel for you, but the only OLP I have suffered from is white streaks in the inside of my cheeks and on my tongue, my gums have not been affected, my problem has been widespread skin LP, as I have said in my original statement that stopping proton pump inhibitors i.e. Omeprazole my LP is significantly improved, because Nexium is part of a proton pump inhibitors it could be that this is causing your olp, I found by trial and error what has been having a contributing factor, hope this helps you

Thank you! I will look into going off the Nexium, my reflux was so bad awhile back so they had me double up the dose, at the same time I was taking a powerful antibiotic that caused the oral thrush, as that cleared I first noticed the white lines, which didn’t cause any discomfort, it’s crazy now the gums are acting up, and painful. My whole mouth kinda burns and it feels Ike a achy tooth sometimes. Hope I get some answers soon.
