My G.P. was treating me for a nail fungus infection, she put me on radical antibiotics for 3 months, she said I will have to take them for 6 months. After 3 lab tasts, all came back negative, there was no nail fungus infection. I went private to see a dermatologist, he said right away that it was either nail psoriasis or lichen planus, I am now undergoing treatment for both complaints. I have been told not to wear false nails, and keep my hands out of detergents. I may never get rid of it, I have it on all of my finger nails but not on my toenails.

I was diagnosed with LP many years ago over 20 years, I am 46 years old now. I have no finger nails at all only my thumbnails..and no toenails either. I have to wear false nails when I go out with friends for drink or meal.
Just wondering if you have any improvemant perhaps you can let me know the treatment.
Thank you.

We sometimes take clippings of the nail and send to the lab for culture but there is a large error rate in results so usually go on appearance and history.
Unfortunately from my understanding, once a nail has been damaged by LP it rarely returns to normal.
