My G.P. was treating me for a nail fungus infection, she put me on radical antibiotics for 3 months, she said I will have to take them for 6 months. After 3 lab tasts, all came back negative, there was no nail fungus infection. I went private to see a dermatologist, he said right away that it was either nail psoriasis or lichen planus, I am now undergoing treatment for both complaints. I have been told not to wear false nails, and keep my hands out of detergents. I may never get rid of it, I have it on all of my finger nails but not on my toenails.

Just wondering how are your toenails are now...

I was diagnosed with LP many years ago over 20 years, I am 46 years old now. I have no finger nails at all only my thumbnails..and no toenails either. I have to wear false nails when I go out with friends for drink or meal.

Just wondering if you have any improvemant perhaps you can let me know the treatment.

    Thank you.

I have LP and am a Podiatrist so spend a lot of time looking at nails. The chances are that unless a patient had specifically told me that they had LP elsewhere I would not spot it in the nail and treat for fungal nail infection. I guess most GP's would also miss it.

We sometimes take clippings of the nail and send to the lab for culture but there is a large error rate in results so usually go on appearance and history.

Unfortunately from my understanding, once a nail has been damaged by LP it rarely returns to normal.

I too had LP in the whole body and in the finger nails about 6 months back.I tried Steroid and Retinoid . They helped me to control but did not cure me.I switched to homeopathy medicine and now I am far better. Now the nails look 90% to my old natural form. Please take JUGLANS C Q ( mother tincture ). 5 drops of medicine in 50ml water. Drink three times a day on empty stomach and no food for about 30 minutes after and before medicene.Try for about a month you will see the improvement. If you feel the medicene is working cut one dose.Presently I am taking one dose in the early morning. For me this medicine worked like a miracle.

I have taken Lamasil several times and no improvement of nails. For over 25 years it was one finger and two toes. In the past year it is all of my fingernails. Dermatologist did a test and declared it NOT fungus. Rash on ankles determined to be Lichen Planus. My research on the net leads me to be 99% sure my nails are also LP. I am in US, I should be looking for Juglans CQ? Is that the same as Juglans Cinera?
