My haemoroidoctomy procedure so far

I had a haemoroidoctomy on 27th September so I'm just wanting to share my experience with others.

After waiting for 10 hours with no food i went down to theatre. The team said i would feel a little uncomfy when i woke up, i woke up in a lot of pain and was given tramadol that didn't do anything.

I got sent home with high strength co codomal and naproxen which isn't strong but an anti inflammatory.

I do have tramadol at home so instead of making myself constipated i took tramadol and naproxen.

The first 2 days were painful, then day 3 and 4 arrived (day 4 today) and that's when i became in agony and the anesthetic had well and truly wore off.

I struggle a lot with my bowels and i am always constipated. I had to go back to the hospital last night as i couldn't pass water or have a bowel movement, it got to 5 days with no bowel movement which even for me is too long so they did blood tests/urine sample (what i could produce) and I'm seeing my consultant thursday about what's been happening and see what pain relief he can give.

My body can't deal with laxatives, normally they run out of me, not this time, in the space of 3 days i have taken 6 movicol, 3 fybogel, 8 senna tablets, ducolax and 2 lots of lactulose over a period of 15 hours and my consultant doubled the lactulose dose to try help so it would equal to 4 normal doses.

I came to the toilet and passed a small bowel movement, the pain shot through me! I was screaming and crying rushing to get some pain relief down me. i instantly ran a sitz bath and I'm currently sat in it now knowing i need to empty the rest of my bowels but too scared to!

i haven't been eating much and very tired from not sleeping but i do get a few hours in, just broken sleep.

i am still struggling to pass water but better than i was, it's a common side effect.

I don't mean to scare anyone, people have different stories, i had piles internal and external and also a very big skin tag that he removed.

i stocked up on fruit and bought high fiber food that can help prevent constipation.

Get yourself a sitz bath, they are a life saver and stops you running countless baths! i also bought a gel ice pack to put in the freezer.

And just prepare yourself for the pain but it's on to the road of recovery!

i didn't finish my bowel movement earlier, held it that long it went away. it was one of the worst pains I've ever had!

      awe sorry to hear that

but I learned that if you need to have a BM just go its painful if you hold it or not.

I held mine I got an infection.

literally your first BM is the worst a nightmare but your going to need go.

if you dont go and go to Emergancy they are going to have to give you an enema and that's not pleasant. and dont look in the toliet

play music to get your mind off of what your experiencing.

it's a lot of pressure but OMG I tell you you feel so good afterwards.

I took xlyocaine and hydromorphone throughout my recovery it was absoutely helpful or sure

I've come to the toilet 3 times but only emptying a little each time as the pain is so bad. i literally screamed the house down the pain was so bad so back on my sitz bath trying to sooth it again. it's hard for me too because i have to strain to get any bowel movement, I'm not straining as much as i used to but still a little. i knew my first bowel movement would be painful but nothing like this!

ya their isnt any real words to describe the pain. you should get yourself some Xlyocaine cream good trick and extra big help.

if your struggling to have a bowl movement

take more HOT baths. sit as long as you can not sure why but they really help with BM's

You really have to re train your bowls after this surgury. Oh if you have to fart it hurts but let it flow and dont use Saltz in your bath if you need moisture use a bit of vaseline

not sure why your surgeon didnt provide you with any good pain medications either.

well good luck, use an ice pack after a bath to calm down the area.

      keep me posted

so sorry to hear you are having such a tough time. please please do not hold your BMs. i know the thought of the pain is scary but they need to come out so you might as well get through it. The first couple of times are painful but gradually they get less intense. i took long deep breaths (in - one thousand, two thousand, three thousand; out - one thousand, two thousand, three thousand). it might sound silly but this breathing technique really works for me.

i also suffer from constipation so in the 1st week i only ate 3 liquid/soft meals a day and also ate at the same time of the day to regulate somewhat.

The anti-inflammatory i was prescribed is 1 tablet a day of meloxicam (15g). i think it must be super effective as i really didnt need to take much of other opiods. i take naproxyn for period pain and i find it causes some degree of constipation.

wishing you a best of luck..i hope you start feeling better soon and have a smooth recovery from now on 😃

Sorry to hear you have to go through this, just sharing my experience as I read all the stories here most of them really had a hard time on their post op. Today is my 3rd week post op and I can say I am almost 90% healed. I only took tramadol once a day for pain and daflon 3x a day for inflammation for 10 days. After that I stop my pain killer and only took Doxium for inflammation. I think one of the best remedy that helped me during my post op is having sitz bath using guava leaves. I also have a friend who do the same and helped her a lot on her recovery. It heals the wound faster and gives an aid for inflammation. I never had a problem having my BM this time and everything was manageable. Praying for a fast healing and recovery for everyone in Jesus name.

    How are you doing?

not great. I've been getting through the pain with plenty of sitz baths, hot water bottle, ice packs and pain killers, it's been rough. i count down the hours to the next pain relief, ive had to take high strength co codomal over tramadol which i didn't want to do regarding constipation.

since yesterday the itching started! it's driving mad, trying not to itch it but sometimes I've got to. its burning right now. any advice?

Sitz baths dry you out down their, try just hot baths. Itching use vasile really helps or Tucks, tucks is amazing stops itching instantly.

i seemed to be getting better and turning a corner but 2 days ago i felt a small lump, my mum's looked and she can see 3 lumps so upset to say the least. I'm hoping they are skin tags so I'm going to ring the hospital and get them checked out. I'm on day 23 and completely deflated!
