    Hi jennyg1981

You will be in hospital over night if all goes well

Take about 3/4 weeks recovery depending on how active you are first week will be sore but don't push it for the first 10 days take it easy and rest up.

You will be grand best of luck

Hi, I had it done with a mesh fitted and it turned out to be a disaster as my body rejected the mesh. Talk it over throughly with your doctor first, if it all goes well you will be out in two days. Check out the video of my repair after it went wrong, its on YouTube "FP Repair Op" don't worry too much as mine would have been fine if I had looked after myself better after the operation.

Just relax after you have had it done and give it chance to bed in, good luck.

    Hello

If I was you I wouldn't have a mesh inserted. It's usually unnecessary for an umbilical hernia and it can have extreme adverse side effects.

I had a mesh inserted for umbilical hernia and it ruined my life for 3 years before I had it removed. I'm not back to normal but will never get that time back.

Hi Jenny. My son (41)had his done two weeks ago. They said he would be out the same day but decided to keep him in over night only because prior to op his blood pressure was a little high. He said it all went very well   A little uncomfortable for a few days after as you would expect   No heavy lifting for six weeks. He was back at work (office) within four days. Very happy he had it done. All the best

Update not happy, fuming tbh, found out yesterday that the hospital that my gp referred me to,to see a general surgeon specialist,to get my hernia fixed by surgery, the hospital I was going to have the surgery at has rejected my referral, apparently I don’t fit their criteria for being allowed to see this specialist, let alone the surgery itself,I’m screwing about it,yes my hernia is small, but I’ve been and continue to get sharp pain in my stomach, for 6 months now, even when I’m not in pain,my stomach is tender and I feel uncomfortable,I sadly lost my mum on the 11th September, due to her hernia, which was an umbilical hernia, which was that big,it physically blocked her bowels and caused it to cause strangulation,my mum was 73,she did had a lot of other medical problems, and there was nothing the hospital could do to save her,she was too high risk for surgery, due to her age and other medical problems, understandably I’m scared about my hernia,my doctor is sending another referral but a friend of mine, she thinks that cos mine isn’t life threatening, the hospital won’t give me the surgery I desperately need to fix it

Hi Jenny! I read your post and I felt so bad - your story is similar to mine. I have a massive umbilical hernia with intestinal involvement. My surgery was scheduled for Aug 2. Two weeks before it was to be done it was cancelled due to my high blood pressure and all the problems I'm having with my insurance getting me to a cardiologist for an echocardiogram. My BP is finally controlled but I've hit FOUR different roadblocks regarding getting the echo.  I definitely understand your frustration and fear. Have you had any x-rays or CT scans done? Keep us posted for new developments. I'm also very sorry about your mother.

Hi so sorry that you’re also having problems getting your surgery for your umbilical hernia, hope you are able to soon,I had a CT scan done,it’s how I found out about my hernia, originally only knew I had a fibroid, since having my CT scan,I have the hernia and also a 2.5cm ovarian cyst on my left ovary, feel like the nhs are failing me,they just aren’t listening to me,seen 2 doctors at the hospital I’m under, and neither of them took on board anything I said, get this the 2nd doctor I saw recently, she made her own assumptions about my hernia, fibroid and cyst, saying cos they are all small, she doesn’t see how I’m getting pain and symptoms, when I am,I know my own body,I can’t even be intimate with my boyfriend, cos it hurts during intercourse, don’t know who to turn to,I sadly lost my mum cos her hernia took her life,me having the same type of hernia as she had, really scares the hell out of me
