My husband is suffering from a skin condition on the palm of his hand

HI, My husband has been suffering for more than 2 years from a skin condition on the palm of his left hand - the skin is very dry and itchy in the middle of the palm. It began about a month after he returned from a trip to Australia. He went to several dermatologists but no one has yet to find a solution to his problem (including trying a Betamethasone based ointment called Diprosalic). Any help would be much appreciated.

What sort of job does your husband do?. Could it be some sort of contact dermatitis?    ie an allergy to some sort of chemical.     Does he do a lot of driving? I'm thinking maybe constant use of a contaminated gear lever in a lorry or truck that carries chemicals/building materials/ etc.   Google Dishydrotic eczema.

      Hi,

Thanks a lot for your response.

My husband works in hi-tech so he's on the computer a lot - he does not do a lot of driving...

have just been looking at some interesting article about hand dermatitis and it seems this is on the increase in Australia.   Google Dermnetnz.org. There are photos of hands with similar patches to your husbands.   It seems the treatment is a bit of trial and error trying to find the cause. Has your husband had patch tests?
