My medication isn't working, any advice greatly appreciated

Good Morning. I am hoping that others can offer me some advice before I see my GP again on Friday. I'm currently taking Escitalopram 20mg and Lyrica 50mg three times daily. Since my father passed away unexpectedly just under 5 weeks ago, I'm experiencing a severe flare up and it doesn't seem to improve, despite me being signed off work. I feel so fatigued and experiencing extreme low mood and brain fog. I read something or watch tv, but it just doesn't sink in. It's like "the lights are on, but nobody's at home" literally. My limbs ache and feel so heavy. One minute I feel stabbing pains in my foot, the next in my leg, then my arm and so on. Even lifting the kettle seems a struggle right now. I'm due to phone my line manager with an update tomorrow, but seriously don't think I feel any better than I did when I spoke to her 3 weeks ago. I feel such a failure right now. People tell me all the time "but you look great". I've been on most of the SSRI's now, but never given the SNRI's like Venlafaxine or Mirtazapine yet? Just wondering if anybody else has? I'm getting rather despairing now as I'm just not getting better physically or mentally. Feeling rather stuck now. Thanks for listening. Kind Regards Petra xx

good morning petra0263 sincere condolences to you on the loss of your father. Understandably you are in a major flare up fibro feeds on our emotions, it tends to make everything 10x worse. unfortunatly for me my gp tried me on every meds going. I reacted badly to them all. so Im not on any pain meds. The last thing she tried me on was pain patches, I also tried morphine lyrica cant remember the others sorry. some people have tried solpadeine  ibuprophen Its very much trial error with fibro finding what works for you and what doesnt. your gp can also refer you to a pain clinic. some areas offer hydrotherapy acupuncture and cbt therapy. take care kind regards kaz40

    Hey petra0263

So sorry to hear about your loss.

From my time on this site and others it seems that everyone reacts differently to different medications so I don't think until you try what your specialist suggests you will know what works for you.

I know from personal experience that this method can be soul destroying! I've had so much time off work and curled up in bed suffering from a plethora of medication side effects.

I tried mirtazapine which was by far the worst thing I ever tried, but it might suit you? I'm currently on amitriptyline, codeine and gabapentin. They seem to be ok for me generally but when I have a flare nothing seems to work.

I hope you find something that works for you. Let us know how you get on.

    xxx

Hi, Everyone is different. I will say that I would throughly check out the meds before you take them.I was real bad off for a long time. Lyrica made it worse for me. I still have some issues from when I took it. Good luck

Sincere condolences Petra..    There is zero, nada, nothing in the way of actual painkillers to kill the pain/s, aches etc of Fibromyalgia...  NOTHING... and your GP or Specialists should know this!!   There is NO known and proven drug or other available other than the natural green stuff.  Which in most countries is illegal.

Taking all a lot of other types of drugs won't do anything long term for chronic fibro sufferers.  Most times the drugs have that many side effects it makes Fibro even worse.

I don't want to sound mean or harsh, but it is an actual fact that in the medical profession there is Nothing that can prevent, or stop Fibro and it's flares.  Sorry...  Keeping stress from your door, pacing oneself can sometimes help relieve or prevent the major flares if your careful.

Take care Petra, again I am very sorry for your loss.  Cyber Hugs xx

I am hurting so bad all over but my doctor doesn't want to use prednisone. Too many side effects. Wish I could help you but the medication. My doc wants me to try Cymbalta. Have you ever taken that? I am not getting relief from anything and I am allergic to Lyrica.
