My mother was on MTX for six months and did not have one single blood test, she was admitted to hospital the same day she attended the consultant for her six monthly check up and as she already was feeling unwell she was admitted straight away suffering from pancytepenia and neutropenia and was given a blood transfussion and released and died the following week.

I have never known anyone to be on methrotraxate without having blood work done monthly. I know several who have been on it and they always do bloodwork monthly for possible liver problems, etc. It is sad that some people are unaware of this and therefore do not seek medical attention until it is too late. Really sorry to hear about your mom.

I agree with the previous reply. I suggest you sue for malpractice and wrongful death.

[I am so sorry to hear abour your mum. I agree with the comment that you should sue your practice/hosptial. I am really disgusted that she wasn't told how toxic this treatment is. Initially when your mum started this treatment, blood tests should have been done every two weeks for 3 months, then once monthly thereafter. I know it was a while since you left your comment but I really hope you have found the strength to take your mums case to the courts. You most definately should be compensated. I hope everything works out for you.
