My partner is having massive anxiety

Hello !!

So my partner of 4 years has been on Amitriptyline for about 3 years no, he suffers from migraines and were interfering dramatically in his day to day life.

He started on 25mg and over a period of 6 months was increased to 75mgs.

It has helped and only gets a migraine once or twice over a month with is pretty in comparison to what he had.

Just lately he has been experiencing massive anxiety, often at night and as he starts to go off to sleep he gasps for breath, which give him a slight panic feel, hes bearly sleeping at all, constantly has a dry mouth and sex drive completely gone ! Im really worried about him actually and being the stubborn man he is he doesnt take the time to see his doctor ( hes a farmer so bearly has days off) has anyone else experienced these things ?

    Hello Emma,

I was put on Amitriptyline 10mg for about 3 months and then my doctor increased it to 25 mg and I was on the 25mg for about 5 months. Right after the dosage increase to 25mg I started having auditory hallucinations. I told the dr I wanted to go off the drug because I feel it caused auditory hallucinations.  They told me to quit the drug totally so I quit cold turkey. Shortly after this I started to experience terrible withdrawl symptoms one being as you described gasping for breathe right when I am falling asleep. I also experience brain zaps right when falling asleep. The doctors are not much help to me and act as if its not the medication and that I may have some other type of physical underlying symptom but I do not believe that. I have never had such things happen to me in my life before taking amitriptyline.  I am hoping my withdrawl symptoms will start to subside and be lesser in between, as I feel they were even worse 2 weeks ago. My anxiety has been very bad over all of this. As I stated my dr's have not been much help and I only found more comfort in finding many others complaining of similar symptoms of amitriptyline and finding out about its withdrawl syptoms and side effects on my own and threw research. Feel free to write back.
