MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH AYURVEDA TREATMENT

As many of you on this forum maybe aware I have mentioned that I am trying Ayurveda herbal remedies.  I wish to report back and share my experiences with you all.

First, let me give you a brief account of my pains over the past 20yrs before trying this treatment.  I have had pains starting in my right hand and right arm over 20yrs ago.  I was put on various anti-inflammatory meds for a short while.  None of these meds ever helped me, but I had noticed a lot of weight gain and have not been able to shift the weight gain over the years, along with depression.  During my 20yrs I was tested for Repetitive Strain Injury, Carpal Tunnel, Syndrome, Brain Scans done, have seen specialists from an Acupuncturist, Reflexologist, Chiropractor, Chinese Herbalist, had various outpatient treatments and test carried out. I even attended Pain Management Clinic for my chronic pains which I found useless.

Years went by and I had accepted the pains, had two pregnancies, which wasn’t easy as when both my boys were 18 months old I could no longer hold them.  There is a seven year age gap between the two of them, not by choice but chance. During both pregnancies I was pain free, but after birth pains came back with vengeance.  I managed with very little support from family.  I never made a fuss and just got on with my life. I have a part-time job in an office environment.  It’s only last year, when I started to think of myself now, that my boys are older 18yrs and 11yrs  now, that I went back to my GP and got myself tested for everything.  It took a while and finally got to see a rheumatologist.  He confirmed August 2014 that I had Fibromyalgia.

It was then, that I finally had a name put against my pains.  I made an appointment with Occupational Health and things went on from there.  I also started my Cognitive Behaviour Therapy referred by my GP.  This was a one day a week over six week’s sessions with a one to one therapist.  She made me see my life in a different light and made me feel more confident about myself. New Year 2015 had arrived and I thought I would try Ayurveda Treatment.

So January 25th 2015, I made my first consultation appointment at my local Ayurveda Centre. Luckily for me it’s a five minute walk from my house.  The first thing the doctor said to me after I told him about my condition……”I will not be sorting out your Fibromyalgia, but balancing your body out”!!

This was a new world for me as I didn’t realise the intense knowledge of this treatment, but went in with an open mind and was positive too.  So first he suggested I try out head to toe body massage along with some herbal remedies.  So I had nothing to lose but give it a try.  My first session of massage was February 1st 2015.  The herbal remedies started after my first consultation.  I had about five massages in total and this wasn’t pleasant at all, as it was quite painful.  It was decided that the massages were not for me (Very pricey too!!).  So I carried on with the meds and he made changes to my diet, which was difficult.  I have persevered up until today (September 2015) to report back that my Dr is happy with the progress.  By May, I had noticed the severe pains I used to have in my back for the last 20yrs had reduced by 90%, but had increased in my hands.  Herbal meds were changed to different ones, but my main concern at this stage was painful hands, heat issues in hands mainly and night sweats and NO sleep for over 20yrs.  I had to do a few detox treatments, let me tell you these meds are NOT pleasant to take at any time, but I didn’t give up.

One of my sisters-in-law is going through her menopause and she suggested to me to try Ladycare Magnet which helps women going through the change with sleep and night sweats.  Even though I am not yet going through the change, I asked my Ayurveda Dr and he said it will not interfere with my treatment and said to give it a try.  This magnet takes about four weeks to work. So I first wore this magnet July 2015, and it has to be worn at all times but not in the shower or during swimming.  It took six weeks before I noticed my night sweats reduced and the heat from my hands had reduced too. I feel as I am getting some sleep some nights but not completely yet.  I have started to listen to meditation before going to sleep as well to help aid in my relaxation before going to bed.

My Ayurveda Dr appointment last week, I was shocked to hear from him that I am almost at the end of my treatment and has reduced my meds and will assess me again in a months’ time. He is hoping to wean me off the meds.  I can truthfully say that I feel much better than a year ago, and I know I will still have the odds pains here and there, as long as I keep pacing myself and stay away from stress and negative people. I would recommend everyone to consider Ayurveda Treatment.  It hasn’t been easy but if you can listen to your body and mind anything is possible. Over 20yrs of suffering is a long time for pain, and with a chance to balance the body I have been able to reduce the pains by 90% so far. This makes me happy and I am so content with the outcome so far.

I hope my experience will give hope to all of you and remember you have to enter this world with an open mind and have patience for the outcome. I am still on the meds and not giving up.

    Morning Bee

Thank you for sharing your experiences, it was good to hear of something positive, and I'm so pleased it has worked for you. What kind of heat was it in your hands, was it a sweaty heat on your palms or a heat in the bones? And I'm interested as to how your diet was changed and what foods you had to avoid or eat.

      Hi Boqer

The heat in my hands felt as if I has central heating in them.  My kids would say "Mum need your hands to warm us up".  I never felt the cold in the winter.

As far as the diet goes, it all depends on the following....

Ayurvedic medicine -- also known as Ayurveda -- is one of the world'soldest holistic (whole-body) healing systems. It was developed thousands of years ago in India.

It is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicatebalance between the mind, body, and spirit.

The primary focus ofAyurvedic medicine is to promote good health, rather than fightdisease. But treatments may be recommended for

      specific healthproblems.

I basically had to vegetarian for a while, which I found a challenge as I do like my chicken, fish, lamb dishes. According to which dosha one has more of in the body depends on the treatment that one is given. You can search on google for more info.

I am a Sikh, so some of the food diets were not too complicated for me, but the toughest thing for me was giving up my favourites, but I perservered as I knew it was only short term.

I was totally sceptical about trying this but had to give it a go, as it was going to do further harm to my body as everything given was herbal remedies.

Hope this helps, I am here to answer any further questions. wink xx
