My Pre-op Is Done And My Revision Countdown Is Official! There Is HOPE In My Painful Darkness!

Yes!! As some of you know, but in case you don't, my first THR was perfect and by the fifth week I felt and appeared as if I had never had surgery! Four months later, had my second one done and it was never right from the start, so for now, 16 months, I have lived with excruciating crippling pain. My surgeon could not find the problem, saying the device was perfectly place and soon after that, I was kicked out of his practice for missing some payments to my account thereby abandoning me without pain management and any hope of fixing the problem. In effect, leaving me crippled for life.

Fast forward to now. 300 miles away from home I went to Nashville, TN, U.S.A., Vanderbilt University for my second opinion and landed, by the grace of God, with a reputable specialist in revisions of hips and knees. He found my problem immediately as my prosthesis had come loose tipping forward. At Vanderbilt, to prevent infection, the operating rooms are sealed off with self contained filtered air and the surgeon and assistants, two 5th year near graduation joint specialists instead of the usual nurses, each wear bubble hazmat suits in which they breathe their own oxygen. So basically the only germ in the surgery room will be me!

I have contacted a reputable attorney to see if there is cause for legal action against the first surgeon.

Hope. HOPE! I am looking forward to recovering my life! No longer will I be a permanent fixture on my couch!

When I first found this site, I was ready to give up and die because of the severe pain and feeling so alone.

To everyone who has supported me, THANK YOU! And I plan to pay it forward on this site to others.

Love,

Dawn, U.S.

I was sorry to hear about all your running around. Β You know that the Lord works in mysteriousΒ ways. Β If you weren't "kicked out" you might still be searching for the problem. Β How much longer will you be in Nashville?

How did you know about Vanderbilt University? Β I know quite a bit about it. Β My son lives in Nashville TN. Β Went there to college in Nashville and liked it there. Β My friends son graduated from Vanderbilt Medial center. Β

I kep telling my self the same thing. Β The Lord knows the begining and the end. Β He sees the whole picture. Β I am 18 months after THR and couldn't fine out about the problem I was having. Β Finally Β was referred to another Dr. and NOW I am going to find out if I have nurve damage. Β I don't know why it took so long... Maybe I needed to work on Faith & Trust!

I do know you will have a good story to tell... Maybe a BOOK!

Let us know how you are doing.

Thanks Elaine. I chose Vanderbilt for two reasons. One, because of it's excellent reputation and two, because it is 300 miles away from me. I live in the farthest eastern part of TN and one thing I have suffered too much from doctors who will leave a patient to suffer because they will not step on another doctors toes no matter what medical mistake they have made. Even the emergency doctors will not help you if you are under another doctors care. There would be no way to gain an impartial second opinion.

I have traveled there 3 times in three months and in a couple of weeks I will be there again for the revision.

I sure hope you do not have nerve damage because I know how that hurts. If it is, what can they do to help it?

I think I have a life filled with fodder for about a dozen books, but I have yet to commit myself to doing it. Seems as though all these life shocks and bumps keep me busy and tired!

Let me know the results of your nerve test. I pray you find your answer.

I was told the same thing by a PA. Β She said go to someone who is not in the "little boys club" they all stick together.

Best wishes on your travel at least you have good weather most of the time. Β I am north and we are deep in snow. Β I will ;et you know when I have the tests done.

    Hi dawn,

i was just thinking of your car journey.

    1. You will need clear instructions from the physio on how to safely get in and out of the car to prevent dislocation and emergency numbers to call if there is a problem

    2. You will need a portable toilet seat to put over the public toilets to raise the seat Β and piles of medicated wipes to wipe the toilet handles etc down.

    3. have them seal the wound with duoderm dressing, it is waterproof and will mould to your skin and can just be left on.

    good Luck,

    sheila
