My Rezum: utter failure.

I am 3 1/2 months into post-procedure. For a few weeks now my situation has reached something of a stasis so I fear that this is it. I pray I am one of the very few whose rebound takes a long while. Otherwise ...

I am a young 67 yo and in otherwise excellent health. Yes, I've been dealing with ED for a while but the big 3 meds have been serving me relatively well. In the past few years I have been increasing beset by enlarged prostate issues; all the classics. It finally got to the point where I wanted to address it. My urologist clued me to Rezum and Urolift and said I was a candidate for either. Rezum sounded like the least problematic so I went for it.

I'm going to use shorthand here, because, frankly, if I started to list my current issues I would prolly become rather depressed. Suffice to say pretty much everything the literature says are the benefits of Rezume, the OPPOSITE has happened to me (okay, here's one detail: I haven't had anything close to an erection since the procedure. Sleeping/waking hard-ons are, for now, a thing of the past. I feel like the only blood reaching my penis is the small amount to keep the tissue from becoming necrotic). I'm reading in this forum a lot of guys complaining about retrograde ejaculation. Man oh man, I WISH that were all I was dealing with.

So why am I writing here? I dunno. Just to find out how alone in this I am, maybe. Just to get it all out to someone other than my (incredibly supportive) wife, perhaps. I'm tired of making her endure my complaints and bouts of the blues. Looking for someone to tell me "Buck up. It'll get better"? Probably.

Anyway. I'm going to stop there. I'm going to try not thinking about it for a while. Any thoughts welcome. Thanks for listening.

    Hi Alan,

Sorry to hear. Where did you have your Rezum done?

This procedure has been my top choice while I was convincing myself into a surgery. The more I got to know about it - the less certain I became and changed my mind to Holep.

For those who have been on medications before any surgery - the side effects (low libido, ED, weak erections) may persist; some people reported it took a year to improve.

My urologist suggested trying Cialis 5mg daily.

Success of a BPH treatment is measured in ability to urinate. Hope Rezum resolved this issue for you, preventing potential retention, UTI and kidney damage. The rest may improve with the time and 3 months is just a milestone to assess the initial outcome of the surgery.

Stay patient and hopeful. If you don't think about the toilet all the time, don't wake up multiple times at night and can void your bladder in seconds - this is a significant improvement of your quality of life by itself.

      Hey--

The procedure was performed by my urologist at his office.

At my last post-procedure (2 mos?) I reported this lack of erection issue and he did in fact prescribe the 5mg cialis in hopes of improving blood flow. After six weeks, no change...at all.

One of the things I didn't mention in my post was that my penis seems smaller (which sucks since it wasn't very large to begin with) which prompted my thinking that there was a lack of blood flow to it. I mean, it would normally fluctuate in size (as I presume is the case with any penis) depending on various non-sexual stimuli, e.g. the water from shower head on my glans would get SOME reaction in the way of minimal turgidity, but now I get nothing.

Another bizarre thing is that when I am upright it seems sort of normal in its girth (if not its length) but when I lay down it seems to shrink and become more ... floppy? (Not to get into physics, but I am referencing how a short version of something would be less prone to flexibility than a longer instance of that thing of similar physical makeup) It makes me think of being told to hold a bleeding hand injury above my heart level to help stanch blood loss. Lying on my back puts my penis at or above heart level.

As for quality of life ...well ... you say not to dwell on the toilet, but it's the penis thing that occupies my mind mostly. I'm not going to go into detail, but my penis has been the bane of my existence ever since I was a child when my mother said to me, as she towelled me off after a bath, "Don't worry. It'll get bigger." Yes,I have been in therapy.

As far as the toilet is concerned, I pee at night once instead of twice. Meh. My urge incontinence (what ultimately convinced me to do something procedurally) is worse, not better. My urine flow still has a hard time deciding it's done, forcing me to "kegel" forever to make sure I get it all out. Oh, and did I mention I now use Depends Shields ("For Drips and Dribbles™") That's new.

I know not much can be accomplished here, but I guess I'm hoping someone might have a suggestion as to where to turn as my urologist has proven to be less than ... wonderful. And Google searches just bring up endless Rezum propaganda from various sources.

      Anyway, again, thx for listening.
