If your son is 5 has he had a hearing test done as well as an audiology test. My son had glue ear from 2-5 yrs and had some hearing loss in his left ear. He also had what was then called Central Auditory Processing Deficit. This is when they hear but can't process it all. Example: John go to the drawer and get your socks, put on your shoes and wait at the door. When you go in his room he is still at the drawer looking. He doesn't get it all. If he has hearing loss, would having hid tonsils and adnoids removed help. Our son had this and it helped but he didn't have infections so we didn't go with the tubes. He did require alot of speech therapy in school and you will have to be your childs avocate and fight for all his needs. When our son was older @10-12 we did candling in his left ear and it helped relieve the clogged feeling. If you have tried all the antibiotics there is a procedure where the put a small incision in the ear called I can't remember right this minute it's myo???? your ear nose and throat doctor can tell you. What ever you need to do you should do it now before he gets to far in school. Tubes, from what I have heard are alot of trouble but when they work they are great. There is light at the end of the tunnel. They do grow out of it. I thought yeah right too but my son is now 19 and other than a few glue ear episodes when he has a bad cold is great.

When my son was 5 he suffered a severe ear infection which turned into an infection of his mastoid, after having emergency surgery, i was told they had found a cholesteatoma, he has since had 4 more operations and thank fully not had any more ear infections. he had grommits at the age of 3, i say you should pester your doctr for a more through examinatio, if they had done this with my son he woudnt have to wear his hearing aids.

I hope your son is doing ok and I'd advise you to definately pester them so much to tell you everything that is going on. I am 20 and from the age of 4 to 12 I had 4 operations on my ears, and I also had a cholestiatoma. My mum was hardly told anything about it and even though it was removed I now have no hearing in my right ear, as the small bones have fused together.
