My sons first attack

Can anyone please advise me, my 13 year old son was diagnosed with this condition a few days ago, he had pain before in the coccyx area and we thought he must of hurt himself but now I wonder, a few days ago he started to bleed and this was when he was diagnosed, we have been referred to a surgeon will he need an op? Will he have to have a few attacks before they operate? even though he was bleeding from the pilonidal sinus he had no pain is this normal? I would really appreciate any advice.

    Bless him. My son had this too. They usually start by packing the wound daily before they do the op. My son took vitamin E and zinc to aid healing. Post op Vac therapy was used and finally he healed. It was a long haul but we got there. Hope it's sorted soon for him.

    Hi,

    I had pilonidal sinus for a year and a half before I had my surgery.What my GP advised me was to keep the area dry after every shower.Every now & then a boil would show itself & I has to apply an ointment,but keeping the area dry helped a lot.But please keep in mind that the longer you wait,the deeper the sinus is going to become.

    I was very young when this started, about 9 or 10. I recall coming home from school on a bus, when about 13, feeling the blood and pus oozing out. GP said salt water baths 3 times a day! And so it continued - until I was 32 when a dear friend, noticing me groaning and turning green when I got up from a chair, chased me into hospital.The surgeon described it as being like a rabbit warren. I am now 54, and groaning with the pain after 10 minutes in a chair. My massage therapist believes they damaged nerves during the op. The moral of my tale, get it done but make sure they know what they are doing!!!
