My Story

About 4 weeks ago I noticed the Hearld Patch on my forearm. I thought it was a dry patch of skin and took no notice. Then 1 weeks later i was knocked down by a car. This is when I started to notice the rash. It started out as a few VERY it hy bumps on my back on my boobs but i thought it was just a stress rash, went to the doctor and she said that "these things sometimes just happen".

About 10 days later it hit its worst, from my neck to my kees i didnt have an inch of skin left that i could see just red lumps everywhere. And the itch was unbearable 100 times worse than the chicken pox.

I panicked and felt so down so i came to these forums where i read about tanning beds and head and shoulders. I didnt waste any time i done one 6 minute sunbed went straight home and washed in head and shoulders. Now one thing i didnt read is how much PAIN you would be in after this. Picture having extreme sunburn and then scratching it. Thats what it feels like all over your body, i thought i was dying, i thought i was going to collapse with the pain! This lasted for about 15 minutes but felt like a lifetime.

Low and behold it worked. The burning sensation took away the itch, and the next morning my bright red lumps were pink. So straight i went to the tanning bed the next day, six minutes and a shower in the head and shoulders (burning to death in the shower) and i woke up this morning and the pink lumps have faded even more. Im amazed.

I know sunbeds arent ideal but if you want a way to get rid of these ugly suckers itnreally works. smile

Im glad its improved for you ☺...but slightly worried that your skin burnt so much though..do you have quite fair skin? Maybe you shouldve done less minutes? I used the sunbeds for my skin and at no point did i allow myself to burn and i have used sunbeds at some point throughout my life to build up a tan for a holiday etc so i am used to them and know my limits..i really wouldnt recommend continuos use of them if its burning your skin and causing the pain you described..and definetly wouldnt recommend going on every day if your skins burning you need to give yourself time to recover...you could do a whole lot more damage. Im not meaning to be patronising or anything as i completely understand how this rash makes you feel having had it for 5 weeks (now gone thankfully) but sunbeds can be so bad for you when not used right xx

Thank you for your reply i think the fact i was doing a sunbed and then getting straight into the shower using head and shoulders was causing the burn sad

This morning i showered with head and shoulders without the sunbed and it didnt burn at all. I was going to do another sunbed today but may wait till tuesday.

Also do you know if when they say it can last 10 weeks is that from when the herald patch shows or when the rash develops?

Im not quite sure, my herald patch came about 10 days before the rest and was on my neck..but then that actually disappeared about 2 weeks ago. I would see if the doctor can give you any other remedies to help...a walk in centre diagnosed mine and give me nothing, the next doc was sceptical as to what it was and gave me Hydrocortisone cream which didnt do much and this is when the rash came out in full force and was everywhere, the doctor i saw after that gave me Fluconazole tablets..now this is when it started to heal (2/3 weeks in of full rash) Not sure if it was the rash just naturally healing or the tabs?? And my final doc (yes ive seen quite a few lol) confirmed it was PR and that the Hydrocortisone cream will of actually aggravated it!! But i was quite happy it was healing i didnt want anything for it.. he has referred me to a dermatoligist anyway. So the cream may explain why it seemed to spread at full force whilst using it. I wouldnt just leave it to run its course i would push to try things on it..maybe the fluconazole tabs actually help?? I give up on sunbeds after about 4 goes..because they say heat and sweat irratates it and this was the only time i felt itchy (that and baths/showers). But my advice would be to push your doc for the tablets. I would also add since it began ive took loads of multivitams and vitamin C drinks to help build my immune system up (im a coeliac so have a crap immune system) as they say its triggered by a virus?? May help..might not! Xx
