My story and how I beat globus sensation

I made a promise that if I got better I would share my story on this discussion board in the hope that I may help someone. All the posts on here were a great comfort to me when I was experiencing this awful condition.
It all happened about 8 weeks ago. I was in the theatre and just sat down to begin the show when I ate a sweet normally, took a sip of water normally and afterwards felt like I was having difficulty swallowing. My mouth went super dry and I felt like a had a lump in my throat and my tongue was enlarged (it wasn't). I thought perhaps I was having a reaction to something so before the interval I had to leave and get out of there. I felt complete terror and danger and thought I was going to die. My husband was worried and took me to A&E. I couldnt breathe properly but was not wheezing. I felt like someone was strangling me, standing on my neck and I was in a complete panic that came out of nowhere. Apparently I had a panic attack or severe anxiety episode. Well, I didnt believe this diagnosis because I had over the years suffered from anxiety on and off and bouts of low mood but even when I have faced the most difficult times in my life, never have I had a panic attack so wondered why on such a happy day I would develop this. Anyway the initial attack was only the start of my problems, I was told the symptoms of my choking sensation would go away within a few hours. It didnt. This made it worse and I was not so easily going to put this down to stress as most things seem to be these days. I went to my GP who said I did seem to have some swelling in my neck and ordered me an ultrasound. As I couldn't wait 3 weeks for the paperwork to come through I saw an ENT consultant privately who put a camera up my nose and down my throat and said everyhing looked perfect and likely to be globus sensation which is common when experiencing panic attacks and anxiety. This only gave me some comfort because I was still feeling these awful symptoms. After the 4th week I had scan and this showed nothing. My thyroid was perfect, which I suspected may be the issue due to my high thyroid antibodies, although I knew I had normal thyroid function. This was also some comfort. I was suffering, and it was really really getting me down. Having to get up every day and go to work was so hard and I was so anxious I was not sleeping or eating well. I thought I would have it forever. After a while I started to think, well this isn't going to kill me as time has proven, its not getting worse or better so I need to start trying things to see if anything helps. I also had a strange crawling sensation in my neck not on top of my skin but underneath - hard to explain. Also when I put chin to chest I felt like the part between my neck and chin was swollen. I tried breathing exercises, hot water bottles, hot baths, drinking red wine, taking NSAI's, drinking loads of water, trying to eat better, sleep better, watching funny films but nothing worked. I then found a couple of websites online suggesting a very simple neck exercise to do many times throughout the day and specifically for globus sufferers. I started to do this and over a week the symptoms started to ease and has got better and better to the point that its only 5% there. The most important part is to make sure your shoulders are always down and pushed back as far as you can. No hunched shoulders or it won't work. Then carefully, with mouth closed, ease your neck back as far as it can go, all the time looking up to the ceiling. You should be able to feel yourself stretching your neck. It may make you cough a little. Then roll your head a little to left and right and centre. It probably won't work the first go. you have to do it many times a day over a week or so.
My GP said that panic attacks can cause a lot of problems in the neck, real tension and muscles, and other structures and a horrid sensation of a lump in your neck. I have to understand now that this is the cause.
Apologies for the long post but it's a long story.
I hope it helps someone.
Good luck to you all and take care of yourselves.

Don't know if I'm on to something with myself but if it works then great..
So Friday night I had my tea late around 9-10pm which was a Chinese..
Woke up Saturday morning and my Globus was terrible as I wake most mornings with a dry mouth and mucous stuck..
Saturday as my appetite was off I didn't eat at night and yesterday morning my Globus was much easier when I woke up..
Last night I ate before bed (a slice of chocolate cake) and this morning it was terrible..
It's slowly easing now though..
Tonight I won't eat after 6-7pm and see how it goes..
If this solves it I will be one happy lady! x

I'm the same, as on holiday I'm eating late and it's not good in the morning, we should be eating 2-3 hours before sleeping, so to me it suggests acid is causing our globus 🤔

Is it really as simple as that do you think? I bloody hope so!
Today is a crappy day but not my worst so far.
Feeling really gaggy (if that's a word 🙈
today..
I'm going to try and take my Gaviscon right before bed tonight and see if that makes a difference.
With my silent reflux I've woken a few times during the night with a really dry mouth and choking so I'm presuming the reflux has got somewhat worse and due to my late night eating and I'm known to wake in the middle of the night and eat plus added stress and anxiety on top doesn't help and continues on into the daytime.
Also Saturday I didn't eat much and it was a pretty good day yesterday compared to other days. I'm determined to kick Globus's ass! x

I'm not so sure! I don't always eat late and I still have globus 😒 Not sure want the answer is, I do know that when I'm stressed with the children my burning/ acid feeling feels worse!
With regards to the dry mouth in the night I used to wake like that but with Buteyko they recommend you sleep with your mouth closed holding it together using micropour tape!! I have done this for years ( yes my husband thinks I'm mad 🤣
still hasn't stopped me getting globus though!!... I'm not feeling in a positive mood today!!

Well I had my lunch about 1pm.. Straight after I felt very gaggy (my new word for the day).. That died down and I watched a bit of tv, cleaned my bathroom and had a shower and everything was fine and as I'm getting dressed it all came back 😭😭😭😭😭
I'm burping like a trooper too and feel like I can't swallow properly unless it's with a swig of water and I have loads of saliva in my mouth.
This is torture..
P.S.. I'm not in a very positive mood today either ??😤

Mad isn't it, since I've eaten I continually feel like phlegm is stuck 😡😡 I had chicken, veggies and sweet potatoes so nothing that I'd say would make it bad 🤔
Even sometimes when I don't eat I can still feel an acid/ burning feeling so am I just thinking this?
Just read online dr Sarah myhill on acid reflux, might be worth you watching 😊
Some days are good and I think I've cracked it, then it comes back just to remind me it's still there 🙄

I notice that when I eat carbs or starchy foods is what causes it.
Even if is during the day cause bacteria multiply with anything that turns into sugar and ferments those kind of foods.
Bacteria causes inflammation all over our body, even in the throat and creates mucous.
Is like people that are allergic to peanuts and they eat it their throats are going to close on them. I think that is a good example that if we eat and we get the globus sensation is because we have an allergic reaction to something we ate.
Keeping a dairy made me realized I can't eat nothing processed or can food in any case .
Keep a daily dairy and that way you will know what is causing it.
Good luck guys!

Hiya well I was reading a website earlier about the foods we should eat to keep us disease free and it was a pale one/ketogenic diet, I put the dr that recommend it so you can look at her website but I see they haven't let me put it on 😒
Anyway, look at paleo/ketogenic and it may come up!

Yea, I noticed if you try to put on another website, or if you put down the medical community or try to lift up homeopathics, they won't put it on here. Jeesh, talk about censorship!

Crazy isn't it!! Am only trying to help people!!
Oh no, what a shame 😩
Bizarre as I ate late last night and drank beer and I'm not too bad today 🤔 Maybe it's just giving me a few hours off!!
I have taken a digestive enzyme with my meals today so will be interesting to see if they help at all

Sorry I didn't see this! We have them naturally to help us digest meats, lactose etc I think, they can diminish as we get older though.
How are you doing?

Hey Katie,

Hi Terrie! That's great!!
My dr gave me a pack to take whenever I need one but I just don't want to take them at all, but for sure on the odd occasion they must be ok than every day!
I'm on and off, still on holiday so not in a routine like at home, never a day when it's gone but I sometimes forget!
I'm glad you've been better 😊
terrie27149 katie16755

So you think then it's okay to take the ppi as needed like when really bad? Some on other forums were saying you shouldn't get off all at once if at all cuz it would cause the acid to flare real bad..but jeesh, I HATE TAKIN MEDS. so thot I'd only take when absolutely had to..what you think?
katie16755 terrie27149

Well my dr said take as and when needed but I just don't want them at all, I must say, every time I come off them completely it does flare my acid up, just shows how it messes with our bodies 😞

So true, thts what happened with me. But then I think of the alternative as well, like what can happen if I don't get control of acid. Omy, what to do, what to do..how I wish the med comm. Would be honest with us. Can't trust anyone anymore, almighty dollar rules..so sad. What happened to ones Who genuinely cared about ppl..I read somewhere tht alot wouldn't take themselves..did you know there's a natural remedy you can get at health food store? Called Acid Reflux I think. I Read it elsewhere.Goin to look for it. It has slippery elm and licorice root etc.

Well I take slippery elm in powder form! Unfortunately Drs do just want to hand out prescriptions 😒 Xx
