My Strange Eczema *With pics

Hi guys, first time here. I am a 22 year old living in Jamaica.

About 4 years ago, I went to my school's doctor because I had some skin discoloration. He simply looked at me and said "you have eczema". When I was younger I used to have scaly cracked looking legs but over time, I guess I grew out of it.

Two weeks ago, I had a discolored face and chest that doesn't ever itch but had scaly, weird looking spots (Sometimes it spreads to my back. My skin also never itches and a matter of fact, I only remember that my skin is like this when I remove my clothes)  I arrived in Alabama, USA two weeks ago and 2 days after, my skin had cleared up a whole lot (Last pic). I spent an entire summer in Alaska and my skin was dry but ok. I spent one summer in North Carolina and another in Michigan and my skin flared.

Please help me understand what's going on with my skin. Thank you.

    Hi Yung,

You can't replace the diagnosis a good dermatologist might offer you, so getting an appointment should be your priority if you want to be absolutely sure. But since you are showing pictures that resemble other similar ones on the Web, check them out for yourself by typing "Lichen Simplex Chronicus images". I also had this particular variety of eczema for 20 years. So all and all, I would say there is more than a reasonable chance that this is the particular variety of eczema also affecting you. At times it can itch, at others, it might just look like damaged dry skin and not cause further symptoms.

Science now believes there is a direct link between most varieties of eczema and colonization of the skin by the bacteria Staphylococcus Aureus. Any creams, especially those based on plants that combat this bacteria, may provide relief and sometimes an outright cure. You can only experiment and hope for the best outcome possible, knowing there is no guarantee for anyone.

Also, have you noticed an improvement when you expose your skin to the sun and bathe in seawater regularly? I know this is something that used to help a lot in my case, when I was still suffering from LSC.

    Good luck!

    Greg.

Hello, I am 22 years old and I myself also have been victim of eczema for too long. I have the same kind of scars on my face and have shown to many dermatologists. They used to prescribe steroids to me for short periods but soon after discontinuing the steroid my eczema started again. Now I use almond oil which controls the eczema but the skin discoloration is still there (just like the 2nd pic).

This have affected my social life badly. I rarely used to go out in daytime to avoid sun exposure as it can worsen my darkness. I would love to know if anything improved the skin discoloration (also known as hyperpigmentation) in your case.
