My toe nail grows healthy and after half way separates

My left big toe nail grows ok and about half way in another nail grows underneath. for the full nail bed there can be three layers.

in January i ripped off all the layers to let it start fresh and now its still happening.

it's not a fungal infection as I have just finished 6 months of Lamisil for my right toe nail which had a fungal infection.

ive tried to find anything remotely similar online and at a loss. As is my GP.

Ive tried to look at lanula damage or matrix damage and also detective nail plate images but nothing matches.

The top of the nail that looks damaged and fungal is the dead part and only goes yellow once the mew nail grows and this part comes off the nail bed.

Any suggestions or advice will be great. thanks
