My Unexpected Treatment of Eustachian Tube Dysfunction

This is only a "Case study" since it has only proven to work for my body,  but it is definitely worth looking into since there is no other good treatment for Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD).

Four years ago is when my ETD started and nothing would help releave the symptoms. Two years ago I started having bad chest pains in the morning. I went to the doctor to get the chest pains looked at and they couldn't find anything wrong with me so they prescribed a mild anti-anxiety pill (escitalopram 20mg tablets) to help relax my chest muscles. The chest pain didn't go away much, but within a week of taking the medication my ETD went away completely.

After a year of taking the medication I decided to try to stop taking it so I wouldn't have to be on a medication, but within days of stopping the ETD came back. I went back to the doctor and they prescribed a similar medication (citalopgram 20mg). The same thing happened - Within a few days the ETD was gone.

Again I'm not saying this treatment will work for everyone, but it is definiately the reason I don't have to deal with the annoyance of ETD.  As your doctor if it might be a possibility for you, and if you do try it post your results here. Three doctors I talked to all said they had never heard of this being tried for ETD, but were all amazed at the result.

I should also note after about 6 months I tried again to get off of the citalopram 20mg tablets and the same thing happened until I started taking it again. There is no doubt in my mind that the medicine is what is treating the ETD. I have been symptom free from ETD while on these medications for over three years now.

Thank you for sharing. This is something to consider! Has anyone else had this experience? This medicine would impact the nerves in the ear tube, yaeh?

My son is in college and has a presentation to do next week, unfortunately, his tube fell out and he can't get it replaced for several weeks.

He was thinking about trying the med that helped you.

He has Patulous Eustachianal Tube Dysfunction, hearing his heartbeat, breathing, etc....Almost like having a bucket over your head type feeling. The sound of his own voice sounds very loud to him.

Does this sound similar to what you're experiencing? Has your ENT ever mentioned Patulous?

Thanks so much for all your help, very intetesting. I look forward to hearing from you!!! Do you know what caused this problem for you?
