My voice has disappeared

Posted , 4 users are following.

I can't talk. I open my mouth and my lips move but there's no sound. It's been 24 hours now.

It happened before in the hospital after my overdose but only for a couple of hours.

I'm scared it won't come back.

You could have laryngitis,  you need to check it out. There could be a very simple explanation.

Hi Lucy.  A similar thing happened to me when I had been prescribed too  much Venlafaxine.  I went to speak to someone and suddenly I couldn't get any sound out.  It happened twice but unlike you it didn't last.

Perhaps you should see your GP.  It could be that they have prescribed too high a dose.

Hope you get sorted soon as that must be awful.

Thank you. I'm just reducing my dose of venlafaxine from 375mg, now down to 75mg x

That's a huge drop.  How are you feeling besides having no voice.

I haven't done it all at once - tried that before and never again! I've dropped by 75mg each week and so far had minimal side effects. I've dropped today to 37.5mg - hoping next week to half it again.

Took a few sleeping pills last night, slept for 16 hours and when I woke up my voice was back. It sounds too loud though so wishing it would sod off again!

Please ,don't be afraid. Sometimes our fears create problems that have no medical explanation ! As hard as it is try to relax, take a deep breath and let your body heal.

Best wishes that you feel better soon!

Hi Lucy,  I am not aware of medication doing this but know laryngitis does this,  you could try Tyrozets they're throat lozenges they help to deal with inflammation if you have that too.  I hope you get it sorted it doesn't sound nice.
