Myomectomy For 10.5cm Fibroid in Upper Cervix to Lower Uterus.

Hello ladies,

I've been diagnosed with a 10cm fibroid in the upper cervix and lower uterine cavity.

I'm 40 with no kids and certainly do not want a hysterectomy.

Has anyone had a fibroid this large removed from this area? Which gynae did the procedure?

I'm based in North London and seeing one at Royal Free but they say a hysterectomy is a high probability.

Not many seem to have fibroids in the cervix area so I need an NHS  surgeon experienced in this.

Hi dear im also based in north london same age as you without children thats a good question.

Have you spoken to your consultant? what medication do you use to control your menstrual circle till you see your consultant. I hope you get your response here but i normally ask my consultant during my appointment if i am concerned. Good luck with this journeyxx

Hi Dami, regardless of why you don't want hysterectomy tell them that you want kids so hopefully the will not do a hysterectomy.

In London you can ask for a referral to St Guy and Thomas I have heard they are very good, UCLH and Imperial College, St Mary's Hospital.

Another option, is outside UK if you can't get an NHS doctor to do a myomectomy. I just had my open myomectomy recently done outside UK for a lots of fibroids lagers than yours. My daughter as well and we are both doing very well.  Is a scheme called treatment abroad and the cost is refunded to you. The few doctors private that I saw in UK, they all said hysterectomy.

With a competent surgeon who is not chased by the time, you can pretty sure have either keyhole or open. Unfortunately the bed crisis now and other factors may make NHS to give you a hysterectomy to save the time.

If you have your records you can try and contact some doctors that can evaluate them for you. I personally would not go with the trust you are under, only because they mentioned a high possibility of hyst. I don't know if you can tell in case they are doing it, if it was to stop the bleeding or to win time cause you gave your consent for it.

All the best I hope you will get what you want in the end.

      Thanks so much Diane

      .

I will contact my GP for a referral for a second opinion but I need to know which surgeon is skilled in removing fibroids in this upper cervix lower uterine area so when I get the referral it's to the particular consultant's hospital.

The Royal Free is one of the best in London. I had my embolisation find there and I found the care i received was great. The team that dud my procedure were ALL women.

I had my mymectomy done in a private hospital -Beneden I think. It was done 18 years ago and the treatment and care I recieced was great.

However, my surgeon who was the top in her field did way on caution of a hysterectomy because of where the fibroids are located and if there is a lot of bleeding. Every person is different

I'd looked up Royal Free and it seemed Mr Magos was there and they had a fibroid clinic. He's very experienced and specializes in fibroids but he retired couple of years ago so the info is out of date.

I have had successful stories about uchl london. I am under their management. Just awaiting for my referal date that was book by them.

You can ask your doctor to refer you to any hospital of your choice.

My mirena coil was not fitted by BMI over 3 years but uchl rectified it by removing the coil.
