Myomectomy-How long to Recover

Posted , 6 users are following.

I just had my pre-op for a myomectomy. And, my doctor said I could return to work after 1 to 2 weeks after surgery. Is it me, or does this seem to be too soon to return to work after a surgery?

It depends on how it's done. Mine was vaginally and I was back at wirk in 3 days.

      Hi Kaliana,

I am due for abdominal myo. in two weeks, my largest fibroid is 9 cm. I am seeing my gyne. next week for a second opinion because i am dreading the ab. route and would rather do something less invasive. You have done yours vaginally, why didn't my gyne. suggest vaginal? Is it because of the size of the fibroid? Thanks in advance for any help.

They gave me something to shrink mine and then I was allowed to have it vaginally.

Hi Teri, I had an open abdominal myomectomy and I was told to take 8 or 9 weeks off work! I think I'll probably go back after 5.

I had an abdominal myomectomy with the ultrasound guided pain block (this helped with recovery at the hospital) 4 weeks ago, and I am not able to fully go back to work.  I am fortunate I have the ability to work from home, so I can still work during my recovery.  With that being said I take constant breaks and go for short walks.  I find that sitting down for too long causes irritation/pain at the incision location.  If you are doing the abdominal myomectomy know that you will need more that 2 weeks to recover.

I also found that after the myomectomy when you have your 1st menstrual cycle be prepared to experience heavy cramping.
