Myself again, things get better

I just want to tell you all that your symptoms of perimenopause will be gone with time, you will be yourself again!
I am visiting this site after a year of being infrequent visitor (because I was well). This forum saved my life during 6 years of suffering with various peri symptoms - the only place where I could find a peace if mind visiting it almost every day, just reading all posts and realising I was not alone .... Thank you ALL for that!
Now I am here to tell you that I am 'old' me again. In short, 6 years of suffering ( all possible symptoms- dyspepsia, nausea, IBS, anxiety, back pain, abdominal pain, migraine, brain fogs, etc.) started improving when my period completely stopped ( I have realised that only now -after 1 year). What helped me: be positive -accept that such numerous symptoms changing daily are due to hormon fluctuations; do not focus on your symptom when it comes, find another topic/ target of thinking and you will see it will be gone even without noticing; I changed my eating habits --nothing special, just reducing sugar, eating more fruits and vegetables. What did not help me: thinking of my symptoms, visiting doctors in year 1 ( I am physician myself, nobody thought us that peri can look like this... none of my colleagues connected my symptoms with perimenopause because I was having regular periods; after such visits my symptoms only got worse because their differential diagnoses are very scary). But please visit physicians in case your symptoms get worse or if it will bring you a peace of mind ... the above is just my experience. In summary, health anxiety was my worst symptom.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year! Relax, stop thinking about yourself, find another (positive) focus around you!

Yes, I had palpitations, not only increased regular hear rate but also irregular (non- sinus beats) lasting few seconds to several minutes and returning to normal on its own. Though I would recommend a common cardiology examination and if needed a cardiologist will provide you with a medicine to take if it lasts longer. First time when such an episode happened several years ago I was scared to death... they happen now but rarely lasting only few seconds and I am very calm when they come. Take care, best wishes!

Thank you - that does help. I have gone from being an optimistic, intelligent woman to a complete ghost of a human. I have all the symptoms you listed and this is my first real year of missing periods. I also visited a plethora of consultants and have really got nowhere. I do think some deeper understanding of menopause wouldn't go a miss in the medical profession. Anyway - a million thank you's . Can i ask - did you take HRT or did it get better after periods ceased on its own?

Hi! I agree with you, not even simple awareness among physicians about all challenges of this phase in woman life....Our mothers and grandmothers suffered thinking they had a serious disease and not being able to share it with anyone.I only now recall my mother losing weight at the age of around 50 and being worried and silent...unfortunately nothing changed since then, the only difference is that now we have such forums helping us to survive... no awareness among anybody (physicians and general population). No, I did not take HRT in any form... theoretically I know it works well for many women and talking about statistics the figures of risks are low but I simply did not want to take any risk. Symptoms ceased on their own once my period stopped but not over night... it took few months before I realised- 'it' is gone

After 10 years of this meno hell i must say iv been feeling better lately , normally i dont go a day without symptoms but iv gone several days now and feel fantastic for giving by body a rest. As its been 10 years i still get anxious and many things that i think will stay with me for life but ill cope with that .

Bless you for this post. I have been in the perimenopause years since 37ish and I'm 43 now. What you're saying I have found is right; I panic less with the craziness that it brings. We need to let the medical community know that this is part of peri and that way women behind us can get some understanding. Thanks so much and Happy New Year!
