Around 2 years ago I started to get a few strange symptoms

- gum swelling and irritation

- sore tongue

- itching and what appears to be excema small dots which started on my wrists then hands, then behind knees.

- heaviness in my stomach

More recently I have had

-overall itching in mouth and the last episode I had extreme mouth itching to the point that I am crying and feeling like I need to constantly suck ice to soothe it.

- I should also mention that I have long running toilet troubles diagnosed as IBS that has worsened this year.

- recent blood panels say I'm not low iron, b12 or folate

- my dentist can't see any reason for it dentally no visible gum disease, healthy clean teeth she has referred me to a dental surgeon to be sure.

- I have been vegan/ veggie for about the two years although I've never eaten a lot of meat or eggs.

- my doctor isn't very understanding and I feel the need to ask him for particular screening.

This seems to be related to infection related. Have you gotten tested for infections ... and checked with an infectious diseases specialist.

IBS can also be caused by infections.

What sort of infection, can you have an infection for two years? Sorry if I sound ignorant I guess if the infection is in my mouth then the oral surgeon will refer me(?) thanks a lot for the suggestion.

I should also mention the itching seems to start after eating but not every time I eat.

There are many types of infections that can cause your symptoms.

Examples include EBV, CMV, chlamydia, strep, staph, pneumoccocal, psuedomonas, etc.

    Hi Keely,

I would suggest keeping a food diary. I 'm intolerant to wheat and milk. Have been veggie for more than thirty years and veggie/vegan for approx 18. If I have milk or wheat I get rashes like eczema. The mouth itching is something I have only a couple of times in all this time. Wheat can cause IBS symptoms too. The reason I 'm saying keep a food diary is to see if certain foods affect it. I found my itching/rashes came with drinking coffee (which I 'd started having with milk in) I stopped drinking coffee and the symptoms went down but , I noticed when I ate cheese the same thing and so gave up dairy. Symptoms went for a while. Then gradually I noticed the same thing with wheat. I may add that this coincided with pregnancy and carried on after the birth of my third child. I think the extra demand on my system and other things at that time illuminated these issues. I still get rashes if I accidentally eat milk or wheat but, am happy with my diet. As a veggie/vegan, make sure you get extra b12 and iron as these are things we lack. I know the test said you're not low but, you could be borderline low? Vitamin c is helpful in growth and repair and iron absorption. Also, minerals like zinc and magnesium are important in our diet. I don't think they carry out specific tests on these.

Are you in the UK? I ask because different countries carry out different testing.

    Hope this helps

I think a food diary is a really great idea I have been pondering if it's food related. I am in UK yeah seems difficult to arrange a full blood panel which is frustrating. I thought it was going to be iron but was told I had nothing to worry about ?? I was hoping it was low iron so that I didn't have to keep wondering and I could take a supplement. I originally gave up milk because I thought it could be a trigger but my problems have gotten worse.

Thanks for your input was really helpful.
