Nagging, irritating throat

Hi all

Not sure where else to turn to so I guess I will ask for some advise here!

This all started Mid January 2016 and since then its been going downhill for me.

To try and keep it brief I had a cough for a while went to the GP and he said lungs sound clear but sent me for a chest X-ray anyway (as I am a smoker). Anyway, the xray was clear and he sent me on my way with antibiotics.

Since then I have been back to the dr about 10 times, throat feels burny every now and then, on seperate occassions I could feel acid come back my throat into my lyranx and when I bent down one day I felt the acid trickle up my throat.

So, with the above in mind I have had full bloods, about 2 months ago which was normal including thyroid, liver & kidney function tests, all normal.  Had a scope down my nose & throat to the entrance of my esophagus which the ENT dr said I had Globus with symptoms of GORD & nothing sinister at all. I have been on Omeprazole & Lansaprozole with no effect what so ever.

The symptoms I have now is one sided, feels like I have a thick piece of skin on the right side of my throat (where my windpipe is), everytime I swallow it feels like I am swallowing on thick skin. I also feel a sting on that side only bu sometimes the sting is on both side or in the center of the throat. No pain when I touch my neck and not bother when I drink or eat, sometimes I can feel the sting when I eat food but very seldom. There is an immense feeling of pressure on that side of my throat, best way is it feels like there is something sewn onto my throat on that side and it is stiff, my throat is immensely dry in the morning but seems to subside during the day.

I have come off the PPI's now as they are not working (still got the reflux when I was on them).

My fear is that this could be something much more sinister like cancer of the stomach or esophagus as why do I still have the throat issues & WHY do I still reflux on PPI's, surely I cannot be refluxing ALL NIGHT EVERY NIGHT!

Hi Kay, Iknow exactly how you feel, i have gone through the very same thing, this has been going on with me for about 3 years when they put the scope down my nose ( and was very sore ) they said it was reflux and that the acid was burning my throat and that was causing the feeling that something was stuck in my throat. i got the same medicine that you got and it did no good. like i said this has been going on for the past 3 years going back and fore the last doctor i saw said it might be that my left side nostrill is thining and thats how im getting this horrible feeling, like you i am going back to the doctors and this time i am going to ask them to send me up to ENT clinic to get them to look at me again.try not to think of the cancer in the throat if it was that would have seen something when you were up there. i hope you get to the bottom of it Kay please keep in touch and let me know how you get on. all the best Kay

      Hi Hugh

What a mess, I have been like this since January, my throat feels stuck on one side, I might loose my temper with the GP on Wed when I go back as she will just sit there going, its anxiety, its reflux etc....what refluxing every day and night.......nah not buying that ONE bit...

I think I need an MRI scan of my throat or something as I know something is not quite right! I do fear cancer but like you said if it was cancer of the throat etc the ENT would have seen it or if he thought it he would have taken a biopsy at least!

WE NEED TO GET DOWN TO THE BOTTOM OF THIS....

Can I ask, do you get sharp breathing pains in your windpipe?? Like you have just chewed a mint? Also, is your throat very very dry & feels like it is sticking together?

      Hi Hugh

My GP refused to transfer me to ENT so I went privately.....but Wednesday is make or break as if she does not want to send me for any further investigation then I will register with a practise down the road until I get a blooming answer....

      Are you a smoker?

Went to the GP again yesterday, he was quite non-specific with me, gave me the Insight Healthcare phonenumber to get therapy with my anxiety BUT he will be referring me for a scope to examine my stomach, he is quite positive there is nothing sinister but he said we will refer anyway, maybe it is just for my piece of mind.

He said there is no doubt I have reflux & should continue with the PPI (which I have dismissed), he was not really listening to me if I am honest...but he said looking into my stomach wont do any harm for a check....

He said I have intense Globus and there is no medication to sort the 'pain out'.........

Will wait for the referral (I am scared they find something!!)

      Hi Kay

try not to be scared, i know its not easy to be positive when your head is thinking so many thoughts, but you are not feeling the way you are for no reason. the best way forward is for them to check you out with the scope and god forbid if they find something they will be able to do something to sort the problem...if and i pray this is the case they dont find anything specific then you know in your heart there is nothing serious going on. your head will be in a more positive state of mind.to cope with this horrible feeling.... all the best Kay keep me up to date.
