As a child light treatment cleared my skin .i stiii go to a derm for light treatment when needed.

Also psorisis OTC meds with coal tar used with occlusion  on scalp, nails any where . I use a shower cap . I also take baths in t- gel shampoo helps.

water PH is important . Keep soaps free from foaming agents these chemicals are commercial cleaning chemicals Lauryl sterilite.

It takes time treating each spot or area every day with creams OTC really do help. It's worth to keep P. in check. A combo of topicals creams, conditioners and moisturizers.

Psoriasin with coal tar and t-gel shampoo.

Sun shine early or late in the day helps keep he P. in control.extea vitamine D.

Many combinations of treatment give way to better control and less flares.

Good old sunlight helps me control it

Clobetasol helps my p with occlusion

Fluticisone and calcitrol has me almost clear

i am not ashamed to show my P. I am older and lived with this for many years longer than UR age.

i used to wear gloves in winter. Then all the time to protect my hand and nails.

Mabe be it time to consider a biological drug if Humira or Stelara they don't always help.

They say the heart break of psoriasis. It doesn't need to be that way. Just let it all hang out .. Others can take a walk on a short pier if they don't get it has always been my attitude. I was born in LA, CALIF.  I fort a lot of bullying I got in a lot of verbal fight too. But u know what's really counts how we handle disabilities and coping with them. We doo have it tough sometime . As I see it I have no dissabilities it the other u have the disability to show compassion.

    There is also biological drugs

It's possible to have a salon manicurist apply a thin coating of acrylic. Downside would be that you would need to go in every 2-3 weeks to apply the acrylic to new growth of nails. And no, it's really not something you would want to do yourself.

Have u tried acrylic nails oner damaged nails. I would br concerned the glue and chemicals in the whole process could irritate the skin more.

    Hi John608,

My psoriasis started about 6 years ago following a very stressful period in my life (I undrestand that stress can be a trigger). This manifest in a small amount of skin problems but my nails became a real issue. I work with the food industry and they don't like the idea of anything like this!

I was eventually referred to the hospital and then given low-dose methotrexate (less than 25mg/week). The condition produced the usual ridges in the nails, split nails, nails that would simply fall off (almost the complete nail) and, worst of all, skin patches growing on the nail bed but under the nail up to 6mm in diameter which pushed the nail up from the bed and was very painful as it effectivley ripped the nail away from the nail bed over a period of weeks.

I started the treatment almost 4 years ago and for 2 years thought it was a complete waste of time. As the doseage increased by 2.5mg every three months (with weekly blood tests) eventually at 22.5mg it appeared to stop getting worse and after 9 months on this doseage the nails finally began to improve.

For some time now the doseage has been reducing (down to 10mg) and the nails are still fine - still got small ridges and they are much more brittle that 6 years ago but cosmetically brilliant!

I read that Methotrexate has many side effects but in my case the blood tests show no damage, I significantly reduced alcohol because of the MX, I don't suffer sickness, lethargy or similar issues but I my skin is VERY sensitive to the sun - within 2 minutes of being in the sun it feels like a blast furnace is 5 feet away, living in the UK this only affects me on a small number of days most years!

From the days of hiding the  nails I no longer have to think about them - I would recommend to anyone with this problem seeing their GP and getting referred for Methotrxate treatment.

Whatever you decide - good luck
