Nail psoriasis - what have you tried that worked?

Hi all, I have psoriatic arthritis (I guess that's what we call PA?) in my hands (diagnosed a few months ago) a small patch of psoriasis on my scalp, plus nail psoriasis.

PA is limited to my hands so doctor says it's not recommended to take DMARDs as side effects / effects on liver may be bad. Scalp patch controlled with Etrivex. My real cosmetic problem is my nails, it's been bad for a couple of years, and felt it was worse when weather was warmer, and better during the winter. Asking doctors, they say there is nothing that can be done. By insisting I was given Dermovate Scalp Application lotion (clobestasol propionate) to apply to the nail fold at night. I can't see any effect after 1 month. On this site, leaflet on Psoriatic Nail Disease mentions phototherapy and was wondering if anyone had tried this and what the feedback was.

Besides DMARDs, local treatment to the nail such as steroid, or phototherapy, has anyone tried any other trick that they felt had improved the nail psoriasis condition?

Thanks!

Guy

I bought this for my 13 yr. old daughter who has sever psoriasis on her legs and arms and she just loves it! Her skin looked so much better after the first use of dermalmd's serum for psoriasis, and just continues to get better and better. It has also helped a lot with the itching issue which was my biggest concern as she would scratch until she broke the skin and I was always worried about infection. It also has made her skin feel better to her which causes her to use it more.we are happy now and i am very happy to share with others,.

I too had nail psoriasis and treated with dermalmd serum which cured my husband's psoriasis.on his toes.I was pleasantly surprised at how it soothed my sore hands, even with this first application. On the second day I was shocked at how my hands felt and the pain wasn't as bad, I can honestly say I saw a difference . It only gets better with each passing day.

Guy, nail psoriasis is the only area I've ever been able to clear!  It came back a time or two, but has now been clear for many years.  I'd recommend two things, both "alternative", but they've worked for me and others.  The first is evening primrose oil (EPO), the active ingredient is GLA - gamma linolenic acid.  Or other nutritionals with GLA.  For me it works extremely quickly - well, that is, as fast as the nail grows out!  Just take a 1000mg capsule, or whatever you can find, once a day.  It takes a couple of weeks for clear nail to show from the quick, but it seems like it must clear it nearly immediately.  For good luck keep on the EPO until all nails are clear.

?And for all varieties of psoriasis I strongly recommend taking standardized curcumin capsules, available everywhere, and if you shop they can be pretty cheap.  Take with some fish oil to help absorption, and because the fish oil (omega-3) is typically helpful for psoriasis as well.

All the places I have it I'm able to wear my normal clothing and no one is aware of the suffering that goes on under those cloths., my first outbreak of the nail condition was 6 years ago now when I was pregnant. It was horrid. I hated even getting on buses . especially if it was standing room only so I m trying to hold on and cover my nails at the same time. God knows what people thought ..🌼. I t really did get m!e down.I still have it in 5 out of ten nails , no way as bad as it was while pregnant, the only ointment fro! My doctors I think sounds like what u have been given, !!?? Can I ask is it the cream or oil ointment? I had the oil , and yes its a tad messy but apply before bed and that did work for me, and I did have it extremely bad back then., hope this help s x

    Take care
