The response you have received is one the worst cases I have heard (and I've heard many now, believe me!).

The complete lack of willingness to consider this treatment by many doctors - despite it being approved for use on the NHS - is, I am sure, a substantial reason why the manufacturers of nalmefene, Lundbeck, have ceased all promotional activities in the UK.  They were basically hitting a brick wall.

A report commissioned late last year on behalf of the NHS really tore into the lack of implementation of this treatment by local health authorities.  There are very few areas that really took this opportunity on board, but those few that did have seen much success with the treatment.

But in your case, that absolute refusal by the ARC to follow the pathway as indicated by your local health authority, is utterly unbelievable.  I've never known anything like it.  To read the guideline that tells them exactly what to do, and then just blankly refuse to follow it, is unprecedented in my experience.

Kelvyn, you might check with changegrowlive (dot) org , don't know for a fact that it will help, but they seem to be a bit more enlightened. Perhaps they can also point you to doctors that don't mind prescribing. I see they don't have much of a presence directly in your area, but east and west of you they do. Another TSM'er worked with them and managed to get Naltrexone with little trouble (compared to what you're running into, I'm sure).
