Nasty penis rash suddenly appeared

Hello,

This rash appeared a few days ago. It looks like a STd, but I can't see that it can be. I haven't been sexually active for awhile and I've always been cautious in that regard. It doesn't itch, isn't sore. If I didn't know it was there, I wouldn't know it was there. I did use viagra last week (I'm an idiot, I don't need it, I was curious now that it's otc) and I have been masturbating more frequently than I guess is my baseline.

I am prone to skin issues but never before my genitals.

I do have a doctors appointment booked, but I'm also interested in others opinions. I think maybe planus, which I keep reading about. I am trying turmeric/coconut rubs but it isn't doing much.

Even though I am writing this and seem quite composed. I'm actually devestated. I was intending to get back in the game, and this I suspect is going to royally screw that up. I'm prone to depression anyway, and I've lived with skin issues for years, but it gets draining constantly feeling like your body is an enemy rather than a friend. Not my dick, please! Take an arm or ankle! .

Anyway, this is my first ever Internet dick pic. It's a shame it couldn't have been in other circumstances. The pictures shows about 85% of the problem, there's general redness at the base too.

How long has this been on your penis for? It seems like something that took a while to develop rather than appearing overnight!

I think you might be right about lichen planus, out of curiosity, if you look in your mouth inside your cheeks do you have similar lesions there? (They may appear white)

I've had a couple of bouts of lichen planus over the years and looking at your photo this looks just like what I had. With me it was not on my genitals, but on my forearms. After a few weeks the marks went flat (hence the planus in the name, I believe) and eventually disappeared. It all returned about 2-3 years later. The main consolation is that it it isn't infectious and is harmless.

Hi Paul, I can empathise with your depression susceptibility, so let's get this sorted!  Hopefully the Doctors appointment will pin-point what it is exactly you have.  Alternatively, if you are having to wait for the appointment for a week or 2 you could go to a specialist Sexual Health Service such as a GUM Clinic if you want to go to a walk-in session in the next day or 2.  If they say it is Lichen Planus [LP] ask what treatment options are best for you - if a Steroid application is suggested, go for an Ointment as most people find this to be better than the cream versions.

*Can I also check: have you noticed any tightness in the foreskin as one of the susceptibilities with LP is Lichen Sclerosus developing, and a possibility is you COULD have Phimosis developing?

Longer-term, as you mention you have had skin issues for years is that you have a worsening Autoimmune System problem developing further.  One thing you can do to help this situation is closely monitor your food intake, for times when your skin condition generally worsens, to see what makes it worse.  Has a radical change in diet ever been recommended to you?  Also, perhaps a trip to see a Dermatologist may be in order to have ALL your skin issues checked out - if you can get a referral I would certainly be asking about obtaining clear guidelines on what dietary issues you need to be aware of, the foods to avoid, and the safe foods you can eat!!!

    Good Luck ......

Thanks for your replies. Most helpful. I'll answer some of the points.

It didn't appear overnight, but was very quick to appear maybe 2, 3 days tops. I don't have any sign of oral whiteness and no issues with foreskin.

It does seem to have died down noticeably, which I wasn't expecting. Everything online suggested months to clear which is why I was devestated. However, I'm not going to get carried away. After all, it appeared out of nowhere so who knows if it has something else in store for me. I've been using turmeric drink + turmeric coconut oil paste.

I am prone to skin problems but I mostly manage to keep them in abeyance. My diet is pretty much beyond improvement now, to be honest, with all the foods I have cut out. I don't think there's anything else I could do in that regard. I've even fasted before, to try to shake off my skin problems from the inside out.

This is a new issue as I've never had my penis affected before. The good news is it seems to have faded a little the bad news is it's still there.

Hi Paul, thanks for the further details, it sounds like what you have is heading in the right direction, at least.  The following information would just be for my personal interest - so, obviously, you need not reply ...

      > In dealing with your long-term skin issues have you found a Doctor that is particularly helpful in aiding you to deal with your condition?  Or, have you dealt with several Doctors (I'm assuming you are in the UK and usually you discuss this with a GP) - some are more helpful than others?

      > Have you had referrals to other health specialists such as Dermatologists, or even a Dietician (no specific detail required)? And, were these helpful in helping you combat your skin problems?

I know rating scales can be misleading - and again, I am assuming you have ONLY been dealt with by the NHS ...

      > In thinking about the way in which your skin condition has been dealt with from the time you first visited a medical professional, how good or bad would you say your condition has been dealt with by ALL the medical professionals you have had contact with in bringing about the best possible way in which YOU can manage your condition?

If you want to use a 0 to 10 scale Zero = worst possible - 5 = overall, quite good - 10 = best possible care

Or, if you prefer to summarise in a brief phrase.....

I hope the Doctors appointment you have provides further insight as to how you can combat the penile condition you have at the moment ..... Good Luck .......
