Natural things to take or do to help prevent?

A recent operation that will cause the surgical menopause, and the fact that I have been on Epilum due to epilepsy for over 20yrs increases the risk of developing osteoporosis. Each does so on its own so it is a double whammy as they say! smile

I do not wish to take HRT and wondered what suggestions other people may have to help reduce the risk.

Evening Primrose Oil (EPO) has been used for many years by women to keep balance in the hormones.....and it does help reduce inflammation and more. Check it out, I'm back on it for inflammation as I've been off it for some years....do your research. It's an omega 6 and one should get a good balance of omega oils in their body. I also take a daily omega 3 as well.

      Hi again

I'm glad you mentioned that......I've already told her that in a different thread.   Its a definite NO NO isnt itwink

I suppose we should count ourselves lucky that although we have to take them we are stable.

Mine {epanutin} is the one before epilim and every time I see a new doctor {nothing to do with epilepsy} they look at my drugs then says......No one is on that any more......we'll change it. I just say....No we wont change it, but its so old you would be better on a new one. I just say "If its not broke dont fix it"biggrin

      Love

Agree it should not be changed if it works. Epilepsy is such a temperamental thing that if something works it should be left well alone

Just joined this forum. I have OP in the spine, osteopenia in the hips. Beem on fosamax for over 4 years but last DEXA showed significant bone loss. I've quit fosamax amd the consultant wants me to have the yearly infusion of zolendronate. I'm fearful of this medication and felt I needed to do my own research into optimum nutrition,  therapeutic supplementation and exercise. I have joined the National Osteoporosis Foundation which, though based in the US, has a worldwide membership. Their discussion forums have been an amazing eye opener and I am feeling much more positive and better informed in all aspects of OP. Really recommend joining
