Nausea 12 weeks after gallbladder removal

Posted , 108 users are following.

Had my gallbladder removed 12 weeks ago due to pain from 1 large stone. Had the dreaded diarrhea for 8 weeks but has settled. Have the most horrendous nausea I have ever experienced. It's worse in the mornings and I can hardly get out of bed its that bad. Some days it goes by lunchtime and I feel ok and other days it lingers until the evening and then I feel ok. Was back in hospital last week and other than a little gastritis everything is ok. My surgeon said it will go in time. I am just wondering if this happened to anyone else and how long did it take to go. Its starting to depress me now!

Hello! I had my gallblader removed 4 weeks ago with ERCP and stenting because the doctors were suspecting stones in the bile ducts. ERCP caused acute pancreatitis and I had to be hospitalized again. Now fast forward, and my pancreas is back to normal but I am still nauseous every day and have occasional diarrhea. The nausea is worst during the morning but it gets better as the day goes by. I'm taking omeprazole, nausea med and sleeping pills. All doctors and friends in the med field tell me the nausea/diarrhea lingers especially after all I've been true. But at this point it is hard to believe that. I am trying to stay positive. I havent been back to work and I am frightened that I will have to go back to work this way.

your doctor is right. I had gall bladder removal 3.5 months ago. I had nausea for months beforehand before cholycystitis was diagnosed and ended up in hospital twice on in antibiotics for a week.

After surgery the nausea went away for a week and then returned with a vengence! it laster about 4 weeks and then all pf a sudden the 5th week it just stopped abruptly. my surgeon said it takes th a t long for your body to adjust.

I am really hoping that is my case. I am depressed now after all this has happened. I started increasing harder food into my diet, and I do not vomit but still feel nauseous despite the medication. I am hoping it isn't anything serious like the things I've been reading from this forum.

I have had my gallbladder removed 3 weeks ago. I was suffering from cramps, bloated, burning sensation in the stomach region, slight nausea, no appetite but normal bowel reaction and stool. In 2 Weeks before i consulted the specialist, i lost 10kg. Then the specialist gave me acid and fungal tablets but my condition did not improve.

I went for ultrasound, blood tests and stool test. Ultrasound picked up gall stones. Specialist recommended gall bladder removal.

Gallbladder was removed 3 weeks ago. Symptoms i mentioned has improved BUT the nausea the last 3 days is unbearable. I can't eat because i am constantly nauseas. In the last 3 days i have lost another 2 kg's.

My original weight was 94 kg's. Lost 10kg's pre operation. So far lost 2 kg's post operation.

I read some of the posts here and seems my 3 weeks post operation is nothing compared to what some of you are going through for months an years. By the looks of these posts, it looks like these are the normal post operation symptoms of nausea and no appetite. Surely the medical field has advanced since the first post of gallbladder removal and the nausea associated with it and doctors should have gotten to the bottom of this nausea.

This is really get to me, thinking if i maybe i was misdiagnosed and maybe its Cancer or something. I cant fathom living with this nausea for so long as some of you have been suffering here. I know you guys are taking tablets and stuff but surely this should not be the case for something which the doctors say is a simple operation with no side effects and we should not be having this nausea side effects for so long post operation in some of your cases.

Has anybody gotten an explanation, advice or resolution to the nausea after so many years?

    Thank You

Unfortunately im going in 6 months and it seems to be getting worse. I have gone to drs who told me do nexium ans zofran for the heartburn and nausea and xanax for the chills i would get everyday. They said it was anxiety. It was ridiculous i stopped the nexium a month ago and started on cbd and all natural medicine and now suffer with nausea and i feel like my throat is closing. Come to find out my dr told me its due to the nexium because it can duin your vagua nerve so through out all this im starting to think the same as you is this cancer? anxiety is getting the worst of me now. i regret taking out my gallbladder. Especially after reading all the horribke side effects that come after this surgery. I came out worse then before 😦

    Hi Guys,

The past 3 days my symptoms has improved drastically regarding the nausea.

    What am I doing: Remedy

1 Probiotic tablet with a full glass of water (high pH level water) on an empty stomach

Half a glass of water(high bottled pH level water) with a heaped teaspoon of Multiforce Alkaline Powder after the Probiotic tablet

30 minutes later I have breakfast

Drink at least 4 glasses of water (high pH level bottled water) during the course of the day

Whenever I am nauseas, I drink a half a glass of gas drink or an Eno or both if need be. That brings out the winds in your stomach and should help with the nausea. You should feel a bit better after burping once or twice

I started feeling nauseas today 03 April 2020 from 12h30. Drank a glass of gas drink and 15 minutes later drank my Eno. Let that settle down. 13h30 the nausea subsided almost completely and was able to have lunch.

What I have also noticed is I sometimes get constipated every 10 days. When my stomach does not work after a maximum 36 hours, I drink a tablespoon of laxative syrup otherwise you will get constipated and then you have other issues.

The body perfect pH level of a healthy person is between 7.25 and 7.5. Anything above or below that is a sign there is something wrong.

You can measure your pH level by buying the pH strips from a company called Wellness Warehouse

This must be measured first thing in the morning before drinking or eating anything by using your saliva or testing your urine

Black Seed mixed with honey is also a remedy for stomach issues and is natural.

Mix about 4 table spoons of honey and 4 teaspoons of black seed into a jar.

Mix vigorously and take a teaspoon 3 times a day. (Google Black Seed)

This can be taken in conjunction with the probiotic tablet in the morning

Hope this help you guys with your nausea

Will post an update in 2 or 3 weeks’ time as to the status of my nausea issues if I have any. For now I am fine but not 100%. Hopefully my body adapts completely to the gallbladder removal

These are all healthy natural alternatives to medication but I cannot be held accountable. I am using all the above for my well being with no side effects.

Not sure if everybody in this forum will see this post but please feel free to share and let me know your results. You should see an improvement within a day or two.

    Thanks

Thank you for all this helpful info! 😃 I hope you're feeling better! How high would you recommend the pH level water be and also, is it any brand of black seed? During this, have you gotten a really full feeling after drinking water or eating a meal? It's been 4 months after surgery and I've been slow to add junk back into my diet, now I regret it! I've been having the full feeling for about a week, either liquid or meals, unless I eat very little of a food item, the full feeling stays and then nausea is there for hours, until food, I can only guess, empties out. A friend told me about candied ginger for nausea, but I think I'll try your method first!

pH level water should be between 7 and 8. In South Africa i buy the Woolworths pH water. There is no specific brand black seed but rather buy from a reputable health store. Yes i do get that full feeling and bloated but i drink and eat in moderation. If i am a hungry i eat allot.

What i have added to my breakfast is whole or crushed wheat bread. At least one slice for breakfast. This helps with digestion and clear out the system.

Today is one of those days of nausea but i drank 2 glasses of high pH water. I am starting to feel a bit better.

There is not much more i can add what i am doing differently. Everything of the best to you.

      Thanks

I had my gullbladder removed last Saturday and when they pulled it out it just fell apart. It was rotten. So yesterday i started feeling nauseous and i did throw up and again last night. I threw up in the morning and after I ate chicken soup. I hate this feeling. I don't eat sometimes cause of the nausea. Any suggestions will help. Thank you.

You have my sympathy I totally get it. my nausea went on for 4 weeks. the surgeon told me it was perfectly normal as the body takes time to adapt. as if by magic at week 4 it just stopped. my go prescribed Ondansetron the anti genetic but it didn't really help. I found eating a couple of dry plain biscuits as soon qs I woke up helped. do not overeat. just small light meals

Hey John, hope you're better by now! I just found this discussion after googling. It's been 4 months since my gallbladder surgery, everything went great but now that I've introduced foods, non healthy ones, back into my diet and they are about to be back out. Did you happen to have any discomfort eating anything, feeling like your stomach would fill instantly whether it be food or water? This has been happening for a week, along with pains where my gb use to be, so i figured this feeling full must be related to the removal of gallbladder. Thanks for your time!

      Hey Blake.

I had my gallbladder removed 3.5 months ago. I had diarrhea for about 2 weeks and then everything was great. No issues at all until about 2 weeks ago. Now i have yellow diarrhea, nausea, and bloating. Doctor says it's common after gallbladder removal, but my issue is that I was perfectly fine for about 3 months. Had some blood tests and a stool sample, and everything was normal. Now I spoke with a specialist and they want another stool test to rule out some other bacteria. I am worried this will continue on forever since it's been happening for 2-3 weeks now. Also get a burning sensation where the gallbladder was and it comes and goes. Tired all the time too. Changed my diet, but no difference. Still feel sick.

      Hey Matt!

So sorry, sounds like the boat I've been in. Have you had Gerd or acid reflux prior to surgery? I would have acid reflux from time to time. I have now cut out (for the time being, because I don't believe this will be forever!;)) mostly acidic foods like chocolate, coffee and orange juice.

My diet : Bran cereal with almond milk (nothing dairy). Interesting fact I found out last week : eggs are on the acidic side! I had been eating those every morning for 4 weeks! I also do meatless options, Morningstar has become one of my favorite brands. I'll also get a rotisserie chicken and mix that with jasmine or plain brown rice. I also eat oatmeal which I substitute with honey and almond milk. I think you can do any kind of milk except dairy, and should be alright. I have only tried almond and stuck with it especially since almonds are great for combating acid reflux 😃

Since I threw out the acidic foods last week, that full feeling has gone away along with pain in my mid chest area! For a cheat, I've been able to get away with eating rice crispy treats 😃

My tiredness has gradually gone away too. Just yesterday I cut up a few slices of cucumber(in my water) and I noticed quickly it gave me more energy(score!)

Check online the foods that are acidic and alkaline, I didn't know alkaline matters so much in the body!

I really hope you feel better!(hug) It can feel so hopeless at times, but sharing ideas and being there for each other really helps not to feel so alone 😃

Hey Jaziel, what an awesome name 😃

I'm so sorry you've felt so sick. That burning feeling in the chest is what I experienced as well and full feeling. I hadn't had that before surgery, so it has been new. Through googling and this forum I figured out acid reflux, or Gerd was mixing with the lack of gallbladder, I'm not exactly sure why, I just know for right now I can't eat hardly any food that is acidic :coffee, chocolate, pizza, because it'll start that burning in my chest and then the full feeling. I have wondered since the gallbladder is gone, maybe our bodies can't handle too much fat at once? I ate a steak a few weeks ago and felt horrible for 2 days. I read that red meat takes longer for the body to digest, so I've switched to turkey and chicken, and had much easier (and felt better) results 😃 I have also tried vegetarian meats, and those have been awesome as well. There is a great variety! I'd stick to an alkaline diet for a week, that's what I did and the burning feeling in my chest and fullness went away.

I did lose interests in my favorite foods as well, I think because when I'd eat them my body wouldn't feel good - and also, depression I've noticed has done that to me too. Could be a combo of things. I definitely recommend eating foods that are alkaline, and no red meat for a while or dairy! Omg totally forgot about that! Dairy milk is acidic and fattening and can cause diarrhea! I drink almond milk and there lots of flavors now of ice cream that are a dairy free! There is something for everyone 😃
