Nausea and not pain as main symptoms

Just wondering how many of you have nausea as your main symptom on IBS? I've been undergoing diagnosis since June when I suddenly started having issues with D associated with severe nausea. I don't really get pain, but do get discomfort in one area on the right (where I'm convinced I can feel a harder lump like area but scans all clear so Dr thinks it's muscle as it is only when standing that I can feel it), plus lots of gas etc. The Dr also thinks I have functional dyspepsia but I have no other symptoms, such as heartburn but do end up quite burpy. I feel OK for weeks and then feel horrendous and can't eat so lose weight, which is scary as I'm pretty tiny anyway (7 1/2 stone and drop to 7 or just under when I lose). Plus i have hwalth anxiety about cancer.

Ladies I've also noticed the Nausea tends to kick in a few days before my period or around ovulation which again makes me suspicious of the diagnosis. Also it's worse in the morning (and no definitely not pregnant lol).

All scans (2x US), bloods and stool tests plus a flex sig clear. Will be insisting on full endo and colonoscopy to put my mind at rest.

But yes, nausea as main symptom anyone? Especially round period time? Any tips to alleviate? Anti Nausea mens not helping much, ginger helps when mild but not severe. Peppermint makes the gas worse.

    Hi Michelle

When my symptoms became bad this time last year, I'd have horrendous bloating, nausea, diarrhoea and kept waking with vomit in the back of my throat.

My doc prescribed omeprazole and that helped massively with the nausea and burping. However, all other symptoms continued.

I've finally got my diagnosis now... Chronic ibs and diverticular disease. But I stopped the omeprazole medication the instant I embraced FODMAP. I don't know what would have been the diagnosis for the problems I was suffering from mouth to stomach but it all stopped when I started regulating what foods would set off my diarrhoea and bloating issues.

These are my experiences... My endoscopy came back clear too... But Ive found that I can manage all this IBS and diverticular disease 95% if I simply control what FODMAP foods I decide to eat.

I hope you get sorted too. Remember, the medical profession aren't our only saviours, we can make an active effort to TRY and help ourselves xxx

I've had good luck with oat meal and rice. Have they checked your gall bladder?

      Hi missjosefina

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I'm so glad you managed to get a diagnosis. That seems half the battle at the moment. Sorry to hear that you have those issues too.

Glad to hear you had some help with the omeprazole. Doc just started me on that 2 days ago. No help yet but she said it can take a couple of weeks to kick in fully.

Funny you should mention FODMAP. I've been looking into it and just bought a cookbook for it. I'll give anything a try.

Thanks for your kind words and taking time to reply. Xxx

      Hi James

Just replied on my other post. But no, gall bladder seems OK according to latest ultrasound. My cousin did have hers removed last year though (at 26) due to issues, but she had an awful lot of pain which I don't have. I just have this depressing recurrent nausea. :-(

Thanks for taking time to reply.

      You're welcome, Michelle.

These forums are a great network for support and suggestions. James' suggestion about gall bladder issues is also worth a look, especially if you've been losing weight through the diarrhoea.

You'll find a lot of people on these forums are also benefitting from FODMAP. It's not the only answer and, be sure to get answers and suggestions from your doc and a specialist if you'd like the gp to refer you.

I found that giving a suggestion a try...and giving that try 100% was the easiest way to find out if the suggestion benefits me. Sounds like you agree, because buying the cookbooks and giving omeprazole two weeks to work definitely sounds committed.

All the best to you Michelle. Keep us updated with your progress xxx

I think the juy is still out on gall bladder. Mbet haf struggled with nausea for months and the doc's insisted it was not gall bladder. She finally talked the surgon into removing it after they exhausted all other options and testing. It solved the problem completly once it was out. Of course your case may be different but sound suspicious to me. I am not doctor. Try cutting back on grease and meats and eat more oat meal and rice to see if that helps. Increase in period does sound odd thought. Another post talked about a case where cysts in overies where causing nausia. Female issues? What do I know?

I'll certainly keep an open mind about in James. I think that's what's needed at the moment. Gastro seems all too keen to just slap on the old IBS label and send me on my way without actually taking account of what this is doing to my life, and those around me for that matter. Thank you.

They certainly are. And sometimes it's that little it of advice and reassurance that helps you to get through the tougher days. Thanks for your support. I'll certainly keep the thread updated. Just in case it can help anyone else out too. Xxx

My GP thinks it's possible I have IBS after having had my gallbladder removed 6 months ago due to gallstones.

No nausea just pain and tend to be constipated.

Maybe we all have different symptoms but still have IBS?

Take care and keep in touch

Yes, it seems it's a fickle old thing. Everyone seems to have a different combination of symptoms/triggers or on sets. Mine was literally overnight. I think that's what makes it so difficult to adjust to. Are you undergoing any diagnostic tests Sarah?

My best wishes to you too. Xxx
