Nausea and Sertraline withdrawal

Posted , 2 users are following.

I'm going into week 4 after having to go cold turkey on Sertraline as a result of a very bad reaction. All sorts of withdrawal symptoms, all following each other, awful vivid dreams, dry tongue, broken sleep and waking early, headaches, brain zaps, throbbing pressure at back of head in bed in morning and now 4 weeks on awful nausea. On a positive the other symptoms are much more milder now thank god but the nausea has nit improved!

Had anyone had anything similar and if so how much longer before all symptoms go?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi b90844!

I'm currently on Sertraline, but I have come off a different anti-depressant cold turkey before and completely understand what you're going through. The good news is, it does end! It just takes time. Your brain has created all these new receptors for the extra serotonin from the Sertraline, but now you're no longer giving it that extra serotonin and your brain's like "wtf!". It's good to remember that it can take up to 8-12 weeks for tablets to start working, so when you stop it can take 8-12 weeks, sometimes longer for the withdrawals to settle.

For me, it took around 5 - 6 weeks for the yucky withdrawals to stop such as nausea, dizziness etc. But I had brain zaps for awhile after and found Omega 3 and Vitamin B tablets to be very helpful! For the nausea, I asked my Dr for some Zofran which helped take the edge off. Hang in there, it will pass 😃

Thanks for getting back to me that was very reassuring. Determined to ride it out and hopefully cure my anxiety with cbt, Going to speak to the GP and get something to reduce sickness and possibly try beta blockers to reduce physical symptoms of withdrawal and anxiety based on reducing the chronic overdose of adrenaline pumping through my body.
